MGOOF : Modern groupset on old frame

While we’re on the topic – and, inexplicably, there’s doesn’t seem to be a thread for this – could someone share the ultimate bar tape video, if they’ve seen it?

I consider myself a fairly neat wrapper, but I’m never quite pleased with how I’m navigating the hoods.

Never done the figure of 8 wrap before, but will give it a go next time. Looks like it could be a bit bulky on the drops under the hoods?

It's not bulky at all. I find it the easiest way to wrap around the hoods.

I think I followed this when I first did it. Pretty thorough guide.

Just ordered a 1 inch threadless ITM Moray stem for my C40, the eBay seller has a few more available.

Anyone have any experience of these? Bit of a chunky boi at over 300g, but the quill-esque design is pretty nice and should suit classic tubes.

Yes bulky way of wrapping. I Like thin tape and thin looking handlebars and also have flat transition to the levers. Not great with a bulge under the tape on the lever base imo esp if level transition. Works ok to do 8 with thin tape not with thicker tape. I dont ever do a figure 8 tho it is easier and faster than trying to match the wrapping to the correct bend and hit the extra piece under the tape correctly.

New to the site, and have really enjoyed reading through the whole of this thread. I'm constantly meddling with old bikes, and probably spend more time swapping parts around than riding them. Here are my current bikes that would qualify for this thread. I'm not convinced by the deep wheels on the Master, and will probably have a rethink on them.
The Master is a bit of a rehash, having bought the frame off ebay after having consumed rather more red wine than I should. The sharp eyed amongst you may spot that the top tube is no a normal round tube as opposed to the Gilco tubing. The frame must have been in a prang, and the old top tube was slightly kinked and had split around the cable entry point, and subsequently welded.
However, after extensive surgery, it built up into a nice bike, and has seen a few iterations groupset wise, fluctuating between Campagnolo and Shimano Dura-Ace which it currently wears.

Hi - Thanks for your comments. The tape is from FiZik on the pair of them, but looking at their website, it looks like its been discontinued for some reason.

The pros are not bothered by tape unwrapping itself after a few weeks, as they get new tape on a daily basis

If it's good tape and you wrap it tight, you can go any direction you like, even top down like I always do, since no finishing tape = win
