Managed to score a white SLR - my favoured perch. Pairing it with some white Lizard Skins tape. Building it next Wednesday together with my LBS dude, who is a simply awesome chap.

Yeah thats quite alot in the end. A "lightweight" classic steelbike are awesome riding bikes. Havent put the battaglin on the scale but i imagine around 7.7 or so.

I've also got a Super Record groupset and Record>LB carbon rims wheel set incoming so these will also go on.
Madness that DA weighs 5% less than SR12. The SR cassette is a right fatty.

Let me know what the import taxes are on the LB stuff. I need to order some rims for my build.

£0. We had 2 shipments and neither was stopped.

It's been grating on me... So to fit the theme I got some black crimps and black cable adjusters. Now we can sleep soundly.

So, with modern group sets which lever you guys are using for front and rear gears ?
It seems there’s a mix judging by the pics, some using the right lever for front like I usually do and some using the left for the front gear, but rear brake?

Old group set on modern frame?

Thought right lever was "always" for rear der and left for front der but sometimes u brits used the right brake lever for front brake and that is called moto style but is pretty rare outside of gb?

nice looking bike! would look even better with a different groupset .)

For braking yes, front is driven by right lever. I was asking for derailleurs as I've noticed (or it seems) that some swap them around. I just found out I have been building the last ones with left lever driving rear der and right driving the front (same as for brakes) and dunno why :)
With downtube levers it's the right driving the rear...weird. -
• #3541
Yes even for braking that is still the less common set up. Im sure theres also one or 2 bikes out there apart from your :) that have the right gear lever hooked up to the front der but that is very unusual.
-

Indeed :) thanks though. I did build a bike with the right lever hooked up to the front. Oh well, mistake made, not point in inverting now, even if it is definitely possible and not messy.

There is no drawbacks in doing so to my knowledge other than if one perhaps is used to riding with them hooked up the other way. So if you like it or prefer it just keep it that way.
Bit like riding with the chainring on the left side on a fixedgear i guess.

Are you referring to downtube shifters or modern STI?
If the latter, I have no idea how that work ergonomically as you’d have to somehow push from the inside outwards, no?

good point i was sort of assuming the shifting worked and that he was using older campagnolo levers as they have a lot of clicks on the left side. Like 8 speed era or so could possibly shift a rear derailleur ok enough, i dunno ive never tried installing left ergos for rear derailleurs. Sort of assumed it was not the same cable pull but i dont know that for a fact.
With shimano its obs not possible since 2 or 3 clicks only.

Indeed I had it wrong. Inverted them. Will have to do the same on the other .
Not sure why I went that way without even questioning myself :)Thanks.

Upgrade time for the Ron. Mainly functional (now goes up to 11!) but also aesthetic; decided to get more silver bits to go with last year's shiny wheel upgrade.
New bits: SRAM Force 22 shifters, rear mech (had front one already), SRAM Red (silver) brake calipers, Shimano 105 cassette, KMC chain, Campag Record headset (Stronglight one was giving me gyp), Stronglight chainring, Nitto Dynamic 626 seatpost.

I agree that’s a beauty!! Classy
It's not just the stem. Stem, bars and seat post are all big lumps of metal. Could shed maybe 350g by changing all of them.
