• Joe I left that seatpost clamp with Henry at LMNH this arvo.

  • Diamond geezer!

  • but let's not get distracted. Where are the scales?

  • Been meaning to post- I saw a chap with CF-alike Bontrager mudguards the other day.

Obviously you'd need to remove the Bontrager logo/s, but they might match better if you flatted the clearcoat anyway.

    Stem needs slamming.

I decided that crabon effect guards would be naff, basically. The Raceguard Longs are a gloss black which looks quite good I think (I put them on last night). Also I got trade price on the Raceguards, and they fit around the brakes well (the TRP R960s don't leave much clearance) so would have been rude not to.

Also, I have those Hope skewers on my CX bike, they are nicely made but small objects tend to start travelling in a concentric circle around them...

What do you mean by small objects tend to start travelling in a concentric circle around them? I don't get it.

Those Planet X skewers or whatever they are look like they'd dig into your hand to me. Anyway, keeping the Hopes! I like them.

    What does this weigh.

That's what I'm interested in. Also forgot I *need *to buy Nokon cables...

I do want to weight it, out of interest. It's never going to be weight weenie in the road bike scheme of things but it definitely is for an audax bike.

And get Alligators, I reckon they're better, having now got both.

  • ^ I think Dammit mean stuff gets caught in the arms of them quite easily. Though not sure why Hope ones especially.

Ah ok cool, replacing cable is scheduled for March.

  • He means they're heavy enough to send things into orbit around them...

  • Hah. I might be able to weigh it on my parents scales, if that trick actually works.

Rode it to work today due to new toy excitement, so managed to get an outdoors shot with the mudguards on. Taking it to Warwickshire tomorrow to ride it properly :)

Impressions so far are really good, it does seem very comfy but also quick, and changing gear with the Red feels like playing a computer game compared to the ye olde Dura Ace on my Colnago.

  • she's a real beaut.

  • Looks lovely fox, i'll keep an eye out around banburyshire :-)

  • You know. Our bikes aint that dissimilar.

    Looks great ;)

  • Thanks all. I know it ain't bike porn but hopefully it will fulfil its purpose...

Tenderloin, did you ever put up a picture of yours finished?

  • But I have a Doric under the tree - I think...

  • That look great, how come the rear mudguard isn't covered?

  • that pearson looks lush, I am going to have to go to Sutton for a test ride at some point.

  • Got to say I was a touch skeptical this would come together when I saw the red parts being collected earlier in the thread .. but seeing it fully built it looks a real treat

  • What does this weigh.

7.9kg based on the scales trick (that's with mudguards, light brackets, bottle cages).

But I have a Doric under the tree - I think...

Looks good (those wheels are much better) but I was looking at it thinking 'needs a doric/dorico'!

That look great, how come the rear mudguard isn't covered?

If you mean why is there no mudguard around the brake, the Race Blade Longs go up to both sides of the brake but not under it (I don't think I could fit a guard under the brakes). There are little metal clips that attach to the brake bolt and then the guards clip on each side.

Not sure I could recommend their customer service, but they've definitely got some nice frames. I like the new logo and graphics too, but the new names are a bit marmite (e.g. the Carbon Audax Pro has been replaced by the I'll Get Me Coat).

  • I do sometimes get a bit bored of carbon weave or matt black frames...

    ... but no:

Although built up it may be different.

Ah didn't realised they were Race Blade.

I meant why it's not long enough to cover the front derailleur as well as your legs.

  • Basically because the clip on bit behind the fork isn't long enough. I suppose they make it that length because it might not fit some bikes otherwise, but a longer front section (covering the front derailleur, as you say) would fit the Pearson and would be nice, I had a very gunked up front mech after my Christmas riding. I'm very happy with them apart from that though.

250 miles over Christmas got the bike rather muddy so it had a good wash yesterday. I've gone through at least half the brake blocks too with it being so wet and filthy :/

I'm still trying to work out how I got mud on top of my mudguards, I guess that was from riding through flood water higher than them...

  • Muds move in mysterious way.

Are you trying to pretend you didn't fall over at least once?

  • Hah, we should have had a "how muddy is your bike" contest post Festive 500.

I cleaned about a kilo of mud off mine yesterday.

  • What pedals are on that?

Went for a club ride on Sunday. A van Nicholas, a Colnago, a Cervelo, a Stevens cross, and me. I won.

  • It's not about the bike ;)

No, it's a fair cop. And to be honest it was quite dumb. With hindsight getting wet was the best possible outcome.

This photo was taken before I finished my 'Festive 400', it got worse before it got better, but my riding on the 30th washed a lot of it off.

    What pedals are on that?

    XTR M980 SPDs:

They're meant to have a slightly bigger platform for better power transfer, and they're lighter of course, but the main thing is I've noticed is how lovely and silky they are to clip in and out of.
