Haha, great, that narrows it down alot :)
If the frames not drilled for brakes, and the wheels are just for this, then I wouldn't bother getting machined surfaces... And I have a thing for gumwalls so I may be a little biased
Definitely agree on the gumwalls, seems the way to go.
The frame isn't drilled for brakes, however I need a front brake (clamp-on I guess) as I often ride in fairly crowded areas. And people here seem to have no awareness at all of where they're walking.
I think 3, 4 and 6 are my favourites. 5 isn't too bad, just ends up looking a bit too busy. I suppose I actually like 4 the best, but black rims are just powdercoated right? So the front wheel would end up looking strange really quickly.

nice frame.
option 6 is my favourite if you have to have gumwall tyres. otherwise i would go deep and black.
good luck with the build dude

• #31
I'd vote 6 as well
-
• #32
Ok, 6 it is, which I actually agree with, since they offer the best combination of practicality and looks.
So I've ordered anodized h+son tb14s laced to high-flange silver dia-compe track hubs. Wheels are expensive!

Well, it seems you cannot escape the long arm of the LFGSS forum. Incredibly, jay75 from here sent me a message yesterday, that he was in Berlin and had some drops and a stem lying around that I could borrow. Very nice of him, so now I have a temporary setup, that I decided to do once again do a bit of photoshopping on, just to test out the various bar/saddle combinations, so here goes:
Black concor, bar tape and tyres
Black concor, bar tape and gumwall tyres
Blue concor, bar tape and gumwall tyres
Black concor, yellow bar tape and gumwall tyres
Yellow concor, bar tape and gumwall tyres
Black concor, yellow bar tape and black tyres
I think the concor saddle looks nice on there, better than the turbo. I'll probably have to get a concor sooner or later, even if I'll just build it up with the turbo to begin with.
What do you guys think?

My vote is on no.4 - no.5 is just that bit too much yellow!
Great looking project, I love the potatochops!

could take advantage of that lovely green in the frame also..
i like the yellow bars.
I like No. 4 & now No.6

Looking good... The bars and stem are yours, I'm never gonna use them. (use a corkscrew to take the end plugs out, they are only old wine bottle corks.
If you like the feel of the cotton tape there's a store called Velomondo Motzstrasse 12, they sell it cheaper than most places in Berlin (I think it was 2 euros or 1.50 if you buy a roll of 10) and can order any colour. p.s. nice meeting you, sorry it was quick was running late. -

I like all blue, but can you get a good colour match on the Concor? If so, either blue saddle/tape or blue saddle/yellow tape. If not, then 4.

• #38
No. 4!

For bar tape, how about this:

Subtle colour -

^that bartape with a black Concor

black tape-stem-saddle, silver wheels and chain-drive.

And thanks for the bars. I'll be sure to check out Velomondo if I decide to go for cloth.
Both no. 3 and 5 are gonna be really difficult, trying to match the colour on tape, saddle and frame, I mainly included them just to see what it would look like.
I think I'm leaning towards no. 2 with cinelli caleido as the black bar tape. I just think it would be a really nice subtle detail, also I think that it looks just a bit more cohesive than with the yellow bar tape.
One thing I'm also wondering about are brake levers. My initial thought was to get drops with a cross lever for the front brake. However I wanted drops for a different hand position (on the corners, vertical 2nd example) compared to risers (horizontal, 1st example). Which means that to brake I would have to move my hands, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a brake for emergencies. Or I would end up just riding with my hands on the middle of the bars, which would basically be the same riding position as risers, which is what I'm trying to avoid.
So I'm contemplating if I should get road levers. I realise that it's kind of a strange combination together with a track frame, but I think it actually works quite well on superjoe's bridgestone fx.
And thanks for all your comments so far, they've been a great help :)

If you're wanting to run a brake then the cleanest looking and most functional option imho is road levers, it just makes a lot more sense - it increases the number of hand positions and it looks better than a single cross top.

I have a Fondriest, it used to look like this but it doesn't anymore..
-
• #45
Looks good, do you have pictures of how it looks now? Also did you drill your forks? Are they rounded track forks or oval?
Also, it seems Fondriest has a penchant for crazy paintjobs.
Road levers seem to be the most practical route, just thought it kind of clashes with the track bike aesthetic. On the other hand, any kind of brake seems to do that.

Finished yet?
When's the first forum drinks in Berlin? Also, thinking of doing some longer rides on the next few weekends, like Eisenhüttenstadt-Berlin, Magdeburg-Berlin, Müritz-Berlin with LFGSS' famous Rodolfo if you (and Jay75, and anyone else in Berlin who might be reading) want to come along.

Unfortunately, I've not even started. I've been told that the cranks should arrive this week, but haven't received any confirmation yet.
Wheels also ended up being a bit of a pain in the ass. I wanted h+son tb14s with Gran Compe Hubs, however the hubs seem to be available nowhere. So after lots of back and forth I've ended up with Open Pro CDs with Halo Track Hubs, which should arrive this week.
So, I still need to order cockpit and a couple of bits and pieces. Also need to find someone to install a headset.
Don't know about forum drinks, how many are we even here? Jay told me he used to live here, but now lives in London, so he was just here for a few days. That takes us to a grand total of 2 who are in Berlin so far :)
Those rides definitely sound interesting, I would be slightly worried about my conditioning though. I usually just use my bike for transporation and sometimes go on slightly longer rides (25-30k). My current bike also has risers which absolutely destroy my wrists, which also is a limiting factor in how far it's fun to ride. So I'm not really used to going on long rides.
Would you be riding fixed?
-
• #48
Wheels arrived this morning! The picture is a bit weird, but you get the idea.
Should i desticker the rims?
-
• #49
I wouldn't, I quite like the Mavic stickers and the colours suit your frame.
Didn't realise Jay75 wasn't living here. Me and Rodolfo have been for a couple of rides and are looking to do the Eisenhüttenstadt ride this weekend.
I'll be riding fixed, I only have fixed bikes with me here, but Brandenburg is flat anyway. Doing 110km on risers is asking for trouble though!
When you've finished your track bike, come down to Tempelhof and put it through its paces!

Nice wheels man, they're fine like this!
Although, not so much gumwall clinchers...
