you'll get a 130mm oln axle on there, it's only 2mm either side, just make sure the cassette teeth clear the stays

^sorry deleted the question as I figured I'd get a faster reply in CP.
Thanks mate, I did this with my beater, but don't want to risk any damage or stress to this frame
Sheldon says going one size up (or down) shouldn't cause any problems, but I'm still a bit nervous....
Also, if I run a 9 speed group with 7 speed cassette, won't the limit screws lock out 2 of the shifter 'clicks'?

Beautiful. It wouldn't do to put a scruffy groupset on it!
-
• #36
Your problem will be one of spacing between cogs, not just two unused .clicks.

• #37
Hopefully yours goes on at 130, i couldn't get 130mm on my bob, the cassette hits the stays so i'm not sure where i go from there!

The thing to do is called 8 of 9 on 7. You remove one cog from a 9 speed cassette, usually an 11t. the modified cassette fits your 7 speed hub and shifts with your 9 speed shifters.
will this work?

will this work?
Yes, should do.
I'd maybe see if you can fit an 8-speed + block anyway. Maybe you could borrow one to try.
Other alternatives are to just slap a spacer on the end of the block and adjust the limits.
I currently run a 7-speed Shimano block, but with 8-speed Campag shifters (5mm sprocket spacing is the same).

Oo this sounds like the same solution i might need, does mean getting a new rear wheel though <.<

This is always handy:

guess I'm looking for mid 90's Dura Ace 7402/3 8 speed or something along those lines then.....or 7-speed as it should be with DT shifters...
Other suggestions?

Are there any 7 speed brifters? im guessing not
-

http://forums.roadbikereview.com/components-wrenching/7-speed-sti-coming-soon-284305.htmlbut that ain't going anywhere near this frame

Finding a pair is going to be hell.. (of those second link)
Just gna be a job for cold setting the frame then i guess -

won some excellent condition shiny Chorus calipers...may not even end up going the campag route, but a right bargain so happy nonetheless...

Are there any 7 speed brifters? im guessing not
No, but you'd just need to run 7 rings of an 8 speed cassette on a 7-speed freehub instead. It's not tricky. With the reduced spacing of 8-speed, you wind up with a block width which is around 7x0.2mm narrower. No problem.

You can get 2x7 RSX brifters I think, they are nice looking ones as well

I've got some 7 spd shimano brifters for sells...
pic fail ^
