It was indeed tough making that phone call. Only worry now is how to transport a lock to the pub without having to carry it. DHL? A friend travelling that way? how!?

Hmm, I am intrigued... Have never done a long ride on my fixed, but have done a decent amount geared.
Will have to report back on this one!

I'm planning to be in Devizes on Sunday, and can't think of a nicer way to get there.
I'll come to Bath for breakfast, and probably follow the canal back again. Riding out as well would probably be pushing it!Deluxe TNRC Saturday 21st July 2012 to Bath

Light business. I've got a Hope but I want a backup. What are those cheapo Chinese ones that run on a couple of AAs again?

Fenix LD20 from photonshop are a good bet - 2xAA, and similar perf. & func. to the Hope. £40 thought, iirc.

Are there any others worth getting around that price?

I think these are the cheap-o one's you were thinking of. Not sure if they'll arrive by Saturday.

That said, I think my Moon Mask is actually better than my torch that I got off here, as is my Blackburn Flea, so either of those would probably make a better backup/have more general usage on a bike.
Hoping to do this as my first longer fixed ride - assuming 71 GI is about right?

i did it on 74.5 GI last year as i couldn't change my rear sprocket.
this year 66.6 - the mark of the beast
you'll be perfect on 71.

i went cycling in the new forest at the weekend and had my little one in one of these:
should have kept it to carry locks, food, whatever.

Bring littlun. Make stand outside and look after bikes.

would negate the need for locks.
let me ask the missus.

Sounds alright. There's not much up, but 2 significant descents - best to avoid too spinny a gearing.

unfortunately bringing bubs has been vetoed.
something to do with routine and bedtimes.
nothing to do with me getting ratted in the pub.
Boo!
