May be a dense question but is the a road route up all three peak or are you implying a MTB group ride?

He's talking about walking.

As for price, feel free to make enquiries and get prices. If we do this it'll have to be a collaborative effort to organise it because work is hectic for me right now and I can't take it all on.
As for when, I don't mind. It's probably do-able in a normal weekend, maybe with a Monday off for recovery, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a time that works for all of us.
Basically it just depends on finding a bunch of people who are into it and not going to flake. There might be partners/friends/non-cyclists who are up for it?

I’m happy to look into prices – later this week though as I’m dealing with a host of tedious emails today.
A weekend would probably be fine, though taking the Monday off would be a wise move. July/August are best – shall we see how many more people are interested and then set up a poll or something?
There’s bound to be other people who are up for it. The friends I was talking to about the 3 peaks yesterday would probably be interested, though I will ask them before arranging their time for them...

Sparky: why not change the title so anyone who searches for Three Peaks can find this thread?

This has the potential to be an absolutely top trip, I reckon.
I've got July 6th-7th. I could also do any weekend after the first one in August.
On transport, the above website's driving page is an interesting read. Amongst other things is the suggestion that any driver not be a walker, or possibly that two drivers tackle the roads in shifts. Make of this what you will, but I can understand the reasoning.

I've got a driving licence but have never driven a minibus so there is a chance that if you let me drive I will accidentally drive us all off a cliff, so be careful with that.

I think it makes a LOT of sense for the driver to not be walking. It's going to be a knackering 24 hours and we'd all feel better if we could get in the bus and just eat/sleep/relax. It's also safer if the driver can eat/sleep/relax while we're walking, and keep alert when driving.

I think I read (but could be wrong) that if the driver does the walking too and has an accident then the insurance is affected as they've created an unsafe situation. Not sure... It'd be better to have a designated driver (or two), whether that's someone we know or someone we've hired along with a minibus.

From what I understand, the driver mustn't do any walking. Its a support function.
Its a massive challenge and to be forced to drive between the mountains as well would be madness.
-
• #19
damn... Not fast enough.

damn... Not fast enough.
You better not say that on the mountains.

Sounds like we all agree. I'm up for a stupid challenge as much as the next LFGSS member, but it'd be a shame to crash and die before we do all three peaks...
-
• #22
Im not a fan of crashing and dying...
Though, just crashing is right up my ally!

i did three peaks in 2005.. one long weekend, i was in the middle of jury service too.. so ended up getting the caledonian sleeper to fort william, while the others drove up the day before (friday).. this meant we set off a bit late in the day, it really needs to be crack of dawn stuff
climbed from the glen and back 5 hours.. 21deg C in the glen -5 deg C on the summit. the paths are steep and hard work esp descending strongly recommend walking sticks to aid
drive to wast water all afternoon, meant we climbed scarfell in the dark, and despite head torches the weather was grim to the summit and back down. i started halucinating on the decent.. the blurry lights from the nuclear station at st bees head floating in my sight..
arrived at pen-y-pass for the assault of snowdon via the pigs track 6hours.. done this tons of times before.. but the best way up on a single climb is via crib goch.. it is epic but not recommended for the 3 peaks
so my tips
the driver must not do ANY of the climbing..
go up the day before
keep your team as small as possible 3/4 ideal
hire a car with plenty of space for dozing resting
start as early as possible.. crack of dawn
aim for a weekend with a full moon
forget heading back down to sea level unless you really want the sea level to sea level in 24hr as stated in the rulesneedless to say i made it back to court on monday and a guilty verdict passed (death by dangerous driving) on the tuesday, i recall London won the olympics for 2012 that day too.. and the 7/7 bombing the day after.. a strange week all told.
There's been talk of doing the Three Peaks challenge. Reckon we could round up half a dozen or so forumengers and rent a minibus to do it?
LFGSS group ride, sans bikes...*
I just looked and this place will do travel from Glasgow airport to all three peaks and then drop you at a train station - up to 10 people, £1,200. Add in a £50 flight to Glasgow, a £50 train ticket back and a night's accommodation, and it's roughly £260. Sure we could do it much, much cheaper with more than 30 second's Googling. Just a thought.
