What are you afraid of whilst cycling

  • Move into the primary position, that way you give yourself more room and won't be boxed in by a passing car.

I ride in the primary position. If a car comes bombing down a side road and has a quick glance (thus not seeing me) and pull out, I'll still get t-boned.

  • This. If I can see a car approaching a junction ahead to turn onto the road I am on, I am never confident that they have seen me / are going to stop.

    Ride wide.

    Quite scared of zombies too

  • Wolves.

People pulling manoeuvres without looking/seeing me/interpreting the situation correctly (peds, motorised traffic and other cyclists).

Why would you be afraid of rain?

  • Ride wide.

Ride wide indeed. Always worth making eye contact on the way past, not in a hostile fashion. You'd be amazed what the odd 'thanks' or a nod of the head earns you sometimes (especially down The Avenue towards Clapham South).

Most scared of my back wheel being clipped. Oh and other cyclists (at times), wobbling along or not being particularly understanding about not wanting to squeeze down the inside of a stopped bus/lorry/4x4 at traffic lights. If i don't fancy it ill sit and wait, im not a courier and neither are you so get off the clock.

Depends, lets say they are going to pull out across you as they wish to go in the opposite direction to you. If there is traffic coming in that direction then they are only likely to pull out half way if they have not seen you and there is no traffic coming from your direction. In this situation you could take to the centre of the road as you would when filtering.

If they actually wish to join the same direction of flow as you then again, moving out very wide to within a foot of the centre of the road will give you time to move that little extra if worst case happens.

  • All of the above, but "The Green Death" still gives me the wibblies..

  • I'd re-think your project. It lacks depth and purpose.

  • cattle grids

  • Zombies

  • saddle sores

  • Trackstanding.

If my speed is <1mph and I've not unclipped my left foot I fear the world will end. It's a bit like the movie Speed, or that episode of Father Ted.

  • ^Haha! Always

    I'd dear STE5's criticism if I we're you...

As too being watchful, I quite like mad men at the moment, is that what you mean?

  • Helmet wearing cyclists with no brakes, listening to ipods with thick wall tyres crashing into the back of me

  • That chick out of The Ring - you know, the wet bird who walks funny.
    She's well scary

Never understood the brakless helmet thing. It's a bit Pepsi Max.

  • im not a courier and neither are you so get off the clock.

    New sticker out soon.

  • fucktards strava racing in inappropriate places like residential areas

  • My reflection in shop windows.

  • The bloke at the end of my street with newspaper on his windows.
    He's fucking scary.

  • My reflection in shop windows.

I presume you mean the very large department store type shop windows.

So where is a more appropriate place for people to cycle?

I've always been puzzled and annoyed by the fact that TFL/highways continue to push all traffic into the same main roads with bottlenecks and dangerous junctions, instead of putting cycle paths into quiter residential areas. There's an awful lot of London which is essentially shut off to traffic and remains largely unused you know...

  • Stay tuned for RPM's London's Famous London cycling maps.

  • New sticker out soon.

Even if we break that into an acronym, that's a lengthy sticker :(

Many of the 'skyride local' led rides are still based on the mapping I did in 2009. Funny how commuter cyclists are expected to mix it with rush hour traffic all crammed into the same area, yet 'recreational' cyclists are given nice, quiet mostly traffic free routes.
