I have a Dolan ARC. will put it on scales once its stripped but its around 1.4 - 1.5kg I think.

I recall the bowery being a lighter frame than the langster, but I'm not taking the parts off mine just to weight it.

Seta.
I cant see why you'd go for anything else.
What are the fork options for the Seta's geo?
-
• #256
Any road fork will work fine, the head angle is 72° - 73.5° depending on size
-
• #257
^^^ dammit, that welding is atrocious; clean it up and shave another 200g!

Hold up! .. Dolan are quoting 1140gr. on the website for a size 52 frame! That's a manufacturers weight. Has anyone actually weighed one of a them?
-
• #259
I think Iain would need a 54, not that that would be a huge amount more.
Does Dolan use Italian scales?

Does Dolan use Italian scales?
Probably, but
Mr dolan was kind enough to weight a frame for me, 1068g including clamp for the one he had to hand.
Even allowing for that being a selected small one, they should all be under 1300g unless the big ones get a substantially different lay-up

That why I rounded it to the nearest hundred, 'around' 1800g.

I got my Felt TK3 to a fairly reliable 5.2kg. With drops, a brake and comfy saddle it was still well under 6.
Biggest areas for saving on the cheap were wheels
(Archtek 38mm rims on American Classic track/micro + cxrays) 1200g
KCNC stem and seatpostI was a tad worried about reliability of these parts but they have taken 2000km all weathers so far with absolutely no maintenance.
Can provide pics/build spec if it's useful
A good place to start would be an alloy track frame (they're all around 1500g but langsters and felts seem to be lightest) and handbuilt wheels.

Ok, couldn't resist showing a pic of my commuter. I'm sure there's a few FG faux pas there but it's hella fun to ride
-
• #264
they're all around 1500g
Apart from the ones which are 1800g :-)
We've already established that the Dolan Seta is around 300g lighter than the lightest commonly available aluminium track frames, and at £600 it's no more expensive either.

54cm Langster frame is likely to be around 1,300g, and £100, not a bad starting position.
-
• #266
nout wrong with a langster

As long as you strip 200g of paint off it. I'd read a lot about corrosion (and particularly stress corrosion cracking) in aluminium alloys before going down that road.

Reckon the paint weighs 200g? I have no idea, seems reasonable I suppose.
My frame was stripped by the previous owner, so no before and after weight available.
I would assume that the passivation layer would inhibit corrosion in the absence of salt, so as long as I paint it before winter mine should be ok.

We already know which are the light track frames - Dolan Seta and Cervelo T3. The radical pursuit geometry and high price more or less rules out the Cervelo, so it has to be a Seta.
Also, the Look 464 isn't 1600g, it's closer to 1800g. The Koga Full Pro Track is light for a track frame, at 1520g for a 53cm, although the stock fork is a proper porker.

58cm Langster:
Wonder how much a MASH weighs... minus paint of course..
-
• #270
14.4 tons

He said MASH, not you fatty.

paint is significant. on a 9000 teu container vessel, it adds up to 500 tonnes.

Has anyone suggested the Van Nicholas Chinook Track bike? (http://vannicholas.com/38/Chinook_Track/bike.aspx) Its a nice titanium fixed frame. However I do not know how much it weighs and yes it is expensive.
