I'm running a GXP Wheels Manufacturing adapter in a BB30 bottom bracket (Caad 10). It's fine, apart from when the weather is warm or when pushing it hard for a while when it starts to creak REALLY FUCKING LOUD.
Is there any way to solve this? I don't know if the guy I bought it off had glued the bearings in or not, but is this worth a shot? Apparently grease makes it worse...

Ask him?
Both are valid option, sure it's not the quick release, chainring bolt etc.?

I'll check those things, but I moved the groupset over from another bike where it was silent. I'll try and dial the front mech in a bit more, but it definitely seems to be the BB. The internet is full of people with the same problem, but those adapter cups are meant to sort it out.
I asked him about noise when I bought it and he said it wasn't a problem for him. I might just need to stick some grease in; it can't hurt...

try with other rear qr also

If it's with a Shimano chain set, perhaps tighten the hollowgram bolt a bit more before torquing the crank arm up?
-
• #6110
Is this a real problem? I've never heard of this. Will give it a shot.
-
• #6111
It's rival, so just one bolt to tighten. It's fine most of the time, just when it's been going for a while (like after 40 or so miles), which makes me think it's something expanding and rubbing.

Get a wrench who knows their shit to install a proper 30mm crankset.
-
• #6113
it is true. my caad10 was super creaky but was just the rear qr. sounded exactly like it was the bb too
-
• #6115
i had it on my supersix, from a mavic skewer
-
• #6116
yeah mine was wiggle Lifeline -series alu thingie
-
• #6117
Same goes for headsets too. Aluminium must be good at transferring the sound of all creaks to the bottom bracket.

• #6118
C'mon the suspense is killing me!

I have close cam Shimano QR, Praxis BB convertor for M30 cranks and still creaks. I ride with headphones most times though.

So this has popped up for pretty cheap in my local area on the gumtree. What should I be wary of with the lefty/f800 frame? Plan would be to swap parts out to XTR/Hollowgram, and lightweight (aliexpress?) 26" wheels to make a ultralight XC rig...
-
• #6121
What year is it? The older lefties can't be updated and the official channels won't touch stuff older than 2006.
If there's no problems with it though then they are reliable enough.
You'd need the hollowgram tandem axle - spendy
as a platform for xc racing the 26" stuff is at a disadvantage to the 29"er stuff - an alloy FSi might be a better bet long term.
