  • Whats this?

    Its been on my what list for a while. Looks like a nice CX runaround.

    Hmm.. Initially I thought it was the 2005 Optimo CX disc model because of that bright red ( 2004 was more of a crimson red ).

    Decals are totally different though, as is the machined head tube. I don't remember seeing this frame released in the UK.

    Not familiar with Dales using a stick on head badge either? Admittedly I stopped paying much attention a few years ago.

    The 2004 looks like it had wishbone seatstays too.

    I think this one is later - the externally butted headtube and badge are similar to the later CAAD frames.

  • Same head badge as my 2007.

    Looks like BSA which would make it earlier than that though I think- I'm going to bet a virtual £10 on 2006.

  • Same head badge as my 2007.

    I must have been indoors that year.

  • My 2009 CAAD9 had the stick on badge, but my 2010 has a decal. I think the badge was more fun.

    Those disc frames should be quite nice - if they were £100 cheaper...

    Or if I could fit one in a suitcase...

    I think the only dale US built 'cross frame to get BB30 was the 2010 CAAD9 CX (CX9).

    Even in 2009 the CAAD9 was BSA. I think the CAAD9 2010 and the CX9 were the only US built all ali frames to go BB30.

    Could be wrong though.

  • I'm guessing based on the road frames- I've got no idea re: cross.

    That said the Tiagra CAADX was BSA I think?

    So could well be a lot later than I guessed.

  • I just thought it looked really nice and red. :D

    I was a bit confused by the standard headtube, but inclusion of disc tabs. The two things seem of different eras. Not that I know shite about CX.

    It doesnt compete well with the Kinesis I've ear marked, value wise. But I do like the finish, and quality look to the build.

  • I'd take a punt on 2008. I always thought the disc CX bikes they did were way ahead of their time.

    Anyway, unless it's a 2004, and that's unlikely given the lack of wishbone stays, it should be an Optimo frame which (apparently) is technically 'dales most advanced and lightest alu. And these are pretty rare, not sure I've seen one in the UK. Someone races a blue Headshock CX though in the central league which is visually similar.

    They are asking for strong money without the fatty fork though.

  • Would this have come with the short travel headshock fork?

    Head-tube looks too wee.

  • No - the headshock CX only ever had cantis. But the fork looked like a headshock as I think it was alu and branded Fatty - see the image above.

  • Cool. Its not an antique or anything. So I'm not worried about heritage. As long as it is likely to be a USA made dale. I'm somewhat smitten.

  • Yeah I want one too. And I'm in the states next week. Hmmm.

    This^

    More the pity.

  • The eBay ad says that he has 56cm ones also.

    How big is your suitcase Howard?

  • Not that big sadly.

  • Yeah maybe. AFAIK they only did one disc model per year.

  • The chainstays are lovely. Its a very nice looking frame.

    Howard bring 3 back.

  • I saw someone riding a cannondale this morning on my way to work and its the only modern cannondale ive liked, had me interested

    It was brand new, everything on it looked like it was only a week or 2 old, but was definitely an OTP build judging by componentry.

    At first i thought it was a boardman but it was a black compact frame with cannondale in white down the down tube, but im sure the downtube wasnt as thick as the ones on the supersix etc..

  • Bit of 'Dale hording going on here;

    Six13 in clearcoat. Used but minty fresh. Couple of chips on the bottom of the chainstays. Fork is Sidi branded and full carbon with ally drop-outs - not sure if it's 'Dale or not. Fitted here with S-works cranks and a cheapo surly seatpost + PX crabon bars and Fulcrum Zero tubs.

    CAAD7 Saeco Optimo. A bit of an odd one this, as the Optimo frames should have BB30 bottom brackets. This one does not. Carbon/Ally fork is a bit of a boat anchor, too. Still, bit of a looker I think. Arrived here quite tatty looking, but after a good wipe down it appears to be in better shape than the Six13.

  • I've only got two.

  • Does look good with Enve fork;

  • Does look good with Cannondale frame;
