  • ed, that was the problem - getting the bead to unlock! once it was out from the clinch it was easy

  • Push more towards the hub, as opposed to just away from the bead lock. My understanding is that it need to be levered free.

  • so the 35 mm Marathon Duremes fitted with no problems

semi slicks have been great on the ice/sludge/snow, people have looked quite surprised to see me cycling where they feared to walk

this bike was never going to be a looker but so far it has lived up to all expectations

  • This poor machine has been run into the ground. On average over 100 miles a week since it was built last year.

Chainline has been kept clean and lubed at least once a week with Pro Link Pro Gold but the chain and cassette have been destroyed by London's winter grime. The Bontrager Hardcases have also taken a battering and are now lacerated to hell, resembling Freddy Kreuger's face. The rear punctured on Saturday in the pouring rain (a 1" nail went straight through) and I got another slow puncture on the way home this evening. Looks like I shall have to put the Schwalbe Marathon Dureme's back on (but they are a hideously slow tyre).

I have a brand new Sram cassette which as a wider range in the parts bin, so now need a new 10spd hard wearing chain.

Otherwise am very happy with the bike, it has been amazing at what it was made for.

  • Good to hear James, btw have you still got those two noodles tgat you were using for the v-twin spare?

  • I can has?

  • u can haz

Put a massive mudflap on the front rear and the rear front of the mudguard to prevent that.

    Cheaper in the long term.

  • I'm sure rapha makes mudflaps james

  • Where did you get that little doo-dab?

  • 4 sptr

And this is one of those Allen-nut bolts you get with a new brake caliper, used as a spacer to clear the caliper. What a bodge-job...

    .

  • ahhh good idea, i'm sure i'll have one of those somewere

  • James, how are these wheels holding up for you? Everything good with the complete bike, too?

  • the bike has been a workhorse and beast

carrying loads on a near daily basis, the wheels have held up perfectly, disc brakes been amazing

biggest problem has been finding the right tyres

bontrager racelite hardcases have probably been the best on road, but started to puncture and took some big cuts after 6 months

marathon duremes despite being the fastest touring tyre are just slow

continental cyclo-x speed were great for hell of the north but on road lack traction when braking, the bike tends to slide too much when stopping from speed

  • 28c 4 seasons at 80psi are working nicely for me - testing out some HYRDs at the moment - initial impressions are great!

  • The 28c 4 seasons is the best choice insofar, the other choice is the jack brown tyres.

  • would want a 32 c to make use of the clearance

  • ^^ if he's shreading racelites then I guess something as road like as the Jack Browns wouldn't last long... at least the racelites are pretty cheap. Still 6m isn't great.
