the bleed looks like an extra hassle due to having to get the caps horizontal and they are angulated on the master unit
how much excess hose is there leading to your front brake?
-
• #303
Do yourself a favour and learn how.
Shortening hoses and bleeding hopes is a piece of piss. -
• #304
I should get round to ordering a bleed kit I agree.
What's the best thing to trim the hose with- standard cable cutters?
I'd worry about crushing the hose, but might be being silly.
-
• #305
cable cutters should be fine
the hope videos make it all look so easy
-
• #306
neil
shall we buy a bleed kit and have two idiots fuck up their brakes at once?
-
• #307
-
• #308
Torx10, short hose, dot fluid, small pot/plasic bag for the extra, 8mm open ended spanner.
Buy them separately rather than wasting 30+ coins on the official kit.
-
• #309
Or Dammit can swing by mine and take all but the T10
-
• #310
so you have a spare plastic bag?
i have borrowed a t10 to open my master end cap
is it really as simple as he makes it look in the video? i just don't want to fuck up the bike when i need it in a hurry - worried about having a bike that works but with long loopy hoses and turning it into a bike that does not stop but has short hoses!
-
• #311
i probably have a hose from the bleed kit for my hydraulic fork lockout

Trim them at the lever end. With a little care, its just a case of cutting and reinserting the end plug. No bleed needed.
Just as easy as cables if you ask me.

they made a similar comment in the video.
how do you ensure that no air gets in when you cut the hose and put it back into the master cylinder?
-
• #314
SF- that sounds easier, how does one verify that the system does not contain air before thundering down a hill?
-

Its like filling a straw with water and holding your finger over the end. As there is no way for air to get in at the caliper. Fluid cant escape the cable.
Still, I held it upright just incase. The key bit is edging the end fitting back in. As this is where you press air in. Just do it slowly.
If you reall fuck up. It'll need bleeding is all.
I used quality cable cutters BTW.

• #316
i have the knipex cutters, brixton cycles have the same ones and they have lasted for years
-
• #317
I've always bled my brakes when trimming the hoses as it's a 3 minute job.
so you have a spare plastic bag?
You facetious pillock, I've half a mind not to point out that you've mistaken "Short hose" for meaning the shortened brake hose. It isn't, you need a section of hose (Different internal diametre to brake hose) to go from the bleed nipple to the pot/waste bag. But then I remember that you're a dick and think I should withhold that information.
-
• #318
nope, not a brake hose, just a clear tube, i have one as part of the bleed kit for my hydraulic fork lockout
-
• #319
SF- that sounds easier, how does one verify that the system does not contain air before thundering down a hill?
You will feel it easy enough.
..........when you hit the tree.
-
• #320
Seriously. Its quite obvious in the feel of the lever if there is air. You dont even need to roll the bike to feel brake effect.
-
• #321
In my experience if any air at all is in the system your brakes simply won't work. Leavers will hit the bar and the bike will continue rolling.
They either have air and don't work or have no air and do work.
-
• #322
Probably best to set off down a really steep hill to check though.
-
• #323
spoke with Hope, it was actually the guy from the tutorials on the phone
he says i can use the brake system using the nut and bolt from a bmx brake, its just i wont be able to seal up the housing if i do it that way
fingers crossed the proper parts will turn up anyway
having said that, i still don't have a fucking frame
-
• #324
Is there any way of tracking the delivery?
-
• #325
it is fucking hotlines, who apparently don't use a trackable courier
utter fucking imbeciles
Can they do mine as well?
