definitely a good start.

Nice stem but is it the right length?
-
• #5
No idea until I get it on there :O
Benotto stems aren't so easy to find so I'll keep my eye out for others
-
• #6
I've also got this
I was hoping to use some parts from it for the Benotto, but i think its around 10 years too modern for that
-
• #7
Seatpost gaston way round?
-
• #8
Thats how my brother was riding it, not done anything to it so far except a bit of a wash
-
• #9
I think Benotto branded parts belong on low end bikes only.
Except bar tape ...Don't know the bars, but the stem is a cheap one for sure. Sorry to say that.

I welcome any opinions and advice, road bikes are new to me so...

but the stem is a cheap one for sure
The panto is a nice touch though. At least it isn't one of those Benotto stems which just had a crappy Benotto sticker on them.

I've got the same stem (maybe shorter) on my kid bike with 24" wheels

I didn't realise how much the dust caps cost!!
-
• #14
Nobody rode Campag chain sets with dust caps.
Don't waste your money. -
• #15

-
• #17

A 6 speed campag hub should be 126mm shouldn't it?
The back wheel doesn't seem to want to go on

I'm beginning to lose steam a little on this
How long do you guys normally take for a bike build?
I am almost there, just those last few bits, pedals, headset, brakes, bb
This weather isn't helping
-
• #20
There isnt a set time frame for a bike build.
It takes however long it takes - which is when you are happy with it.
If you feel under pressure to complete it you wont enjoy the process.
Once you get the headset and bb fitted the build will accelerate. -
• #21
My last build took 5 months and I haven't finished yet. I think it's hard to call certain build "finished" - usually you find new things to change all the time.

What colour bar tape and cables should I get?
Gumwall tyres or not?
-
• #23
White bar tape to match the decals. Something that'll stay clean like Fizik Microtex. And it has to be gumwalls for a steel frame!
-
• #24
Found a nos frame mounted pump
yay or nay?
-
• #25
looking for some recommendations on finishing kit please
I've gone for white bar tape
What about cables? Black or white?
Brake hoods?
and I was thinking a Rolls saddle in brown, did consider white but I didn't want it looking like a Cheshire Audi or Range Rover
First time building a road bike, so its going slowly at the moment
Managed to get hold of a few bits so far
