Well obviously yes, that's the whole point of this conversation. If we had unlimited time and courts this would never have been an issue.

Again, I'm not talking about any specific teams, I'm merely discussing concepts, so that they can be applied in a logical manner, as and when we know the parameters for next year.

You're also forgetting that I also don't buy into the argument that you've successfully labelled the best and worst teams.

We haven't, no. If we decided to do that, then we would need to come up with some system for that. My suggestion of NS winners would be just one possibility.

Indeed, it's a compromise, and I agree, not a good one, in an ideal world.

Well, if we had the confidence in an accurate ranking system across all tournaments in 12 months leading up to the tournament (which I don't think we could do right now), I'd be inclined to say yes.

Maybe some sort of co-efficient system, where results get worth less as they move further into the past, like the UEFA co-efficient, or the tennis ranking system.

The obvious counter-argument, which you have made, is that polo changes too quickly (at the moment), and it's unfair on new teams.

This is actually a very good idea.You'd still need a way of allowing mixer teams to compete (individual ability tracked) as mixer/new teams would have a long qualification period ahead of them.

So now you are coming around to the NA system. Database and ranking of individual players. Teams get ranked according to the ranking of the players.

Yeah, I think with the fluid nature of polo it would have to be player based rather than teams.

It's what PK and Max did for the league, and worked pretty well, with the obvious exception of Wooden Skulls, but they had hardly played any tournaments, even as individuals.

For example Rat Trap (name TBC), all three of us would have plenty of ranking points over the last year, but none of us have ever played together.

I think the really tricky bit would be to decide a fair ranking system for tournaments, what's worth the most points, how quickly do points degrade, how much do they degrade by, do all tournaments count (only opens, or limited ones such as the London League, or even invitationals)

so if next year round robin sounds great right or a big lot of swiss? New teams and older teams will have got better right? Everyone wants a rooute to the euros right? No one gets a free meal ticket? Numbers of people wanting to enter may increase?

How about a 3 day May bank holiday euro qualifer (RR)? or just make it the uk champs or the uk and Ireland champs (Swiss+Kockout) or the qualifer for the qualifer to qualify for the uk to enter the champs to be a champ.

Alot of this years problems wouldn't be so bad if we just made it more than 1 fricking day..(smiley face)

ha! I don't mean uk champs RR...but if its a qualifer then yes RR or swiss but if we want to do the champs lets do it early. Maybe that will seed a qualifer?

Cardiff have an amazing indoor court, pure slick asphalt - like hackney downs with a roof! If they could pull it off in say early/mid April 2013 then that could be the uk champs.
