  • @gbj_tester do you have any 1" ahead headset cover?

  • No, far too few of them out there to justify making any.

  • Thank you @gbj_tester

Another bike now fitting better than ever.

  • Cane Creek 10 (or 40) EC34 stock vs. slammed, height reduced by 4mm. Uses a 44×3 cover, which I only have one of. Will probably get more in next production batch, which is likely to be early 2022

  • Hi Tester, do you have a topcap to replace item 2 in this diagram?

  • Yes, you'll need to measure the depth required as shown in post #1

  • I think that would be 4mm-0.2mm=3.8mm.

  • You'll want a 4mm one with a shim under it

  • Do you have one for a specialized allez track?

  • Almost certainly, just take measurements

  • Hey tester, do you have any black to fit a caad12 in stock?

  • Yes, all the sizes are in stock

  • Excellent, will pm you

  • @gbj_tester, thanks for sending me the low stack headset cover for my Allez Track bike, it fits perfectly and the matte finish looks great.

  • Anyone had trouble with FSA headset cups not fitting 1 inch steerer tubes properly? I’ve tried the FSA Orbit X1 threadless and the FSA Duron threaded headset on two different Colnago C40s and each is just a little loose. It fits in the tube and can even stay in place but it’s not as tight as it should be and can easily be pulled out by hand. Obviously the cups need to be pressed in so something isn’t right.

It’s not the frames as I’ve fitted 1 inch headsets in them previously (an old Ritchey and an unbranded one). I’ve ordered an M Part headset to try but I’m at a bit of a loss as to why these don’t fit properly. Surely there aren’t multiple standard diameters for 1 inch headsets? Anyone know?

  • Surely there aren’t multiple standard diameters for 1 inch headsets?

Well, there are, but you usually have to go looking for them rather than stumbling upon them by accident. As it happens, the Orbit X1 and Duron do come in a choice of JIS (30.0mm cups) or ISO (30.2mm cups), so the most likely explanation is that you've accidentally got a JIS headset, which could be loose in an ISO frame.

  • Thank you! Yes I’m sure that’s it, both were listed as EC30 which presumably is meant to be the ISO size, but I’ve been sent the JIS size, oh well, at least it’sa good reason to return!

  • Hi Tester, do you have anything that fits a CAADX 2016? I believe it's 45mm, can measure the rest tomorrow, but in case you are aware off hand.

  • CAADs are usually 47×2, I have them in stock in both colours

  • Thanks, just found your site and messaged through there.

  • Got any 45mm x3mm covers?

  • Yes, plenty of stock in all the sizes at the moment

  • Do you think you could have an adapter made to mate a similar front wheel witha 142mm TA dropout?

  • I'm trying to avoid this basically, and the Paul SS hub is not a viable option.

  • Would the Halo Fat 135 hub work? Comes with end caps for 142×15 as standard
    https://www.tritoncycles.co.uk/components-c9/hubs-and-spares-c120/hubs-c591/halo-fat-bike-front-hub-p13570

Converting a 100/110 hub would probably involve a lot of dish to get the chainline right anyway.
