I know, just explain my case to see diferent points of view about this.

Well, I understand the point about setting a precedent, but I think (conveniently, maybe) that the responsibility of this is not residing in the good intentions of individual teams, but in the official ruling of tournaments, which have to be clear from the start and must not be altered late in the day.

I am sorry if DR recruiting Mo has put people's backs up, I can only hope that they can be consoled by the likelihood that DR were were already going to be a tough team to play and that this may be seen as an opportunity to share the company of one of the nicest guys in polo.

Teams that take super subs should expect to get heckled, "don't be a dick", etc.

I accept this, if people find the need to heckle myself, then by all means do so.

Although, I hope that people will not direct any such hostility towards Mo, as it would be a severe error of judgment to view him as being involved in a Machiavelli plot.

It's not as if you're going to win the UK Champs and for that reason I'm cool with your choice of sub.

its either a 2 of 3 rule or its not. You cant say 'The rule is 2 of 3' But if you get a player that is potentially better than the unavailable player (quite impossible we all know i'm no.#1) we will think its a dick move. Come on Jess, make a rule and stick with it, don't insert a sub clause based on what you think personally but can't justify in rules.

Kings chose him because they think he is better than any other available uk based player, smart move, what's the problem? I dont think i'm suddenly going to be a barcelona player because i stay there for 2 months. its all swings and roundabouts. Was Marc a better player than Mo? He is a former DR could they play with him without a problem? IMO There is no supersub anymore, nobody is sooooo much better than anyone else amongst the top teams anymore. Mo Eddy and max on paper should have slayed many teams at Lii. Didnt happen.

from day one, it has been 2/3 UK based players. foreign super-subs, local super-subs and foreign mediocre subs have all been allowed by the tournament organisers. and now that some teams have drafted players based on those rules, i think it would be pretty poor to change the rules. if Mo has booked flights already, it would be far worse to tell him he couldn't play.

Cosmic just paid.

My opinion about this tournament is that it's "not just another UK tournament", it is the annual UK Championships. Therefore, it is about crowning the no.1 UK ONLY based team at that given moment in time as well as bringing the whole UK scene together in one place.

To me it is the most important UK ONLY based team tournament in the calendar year and should be played under the best conditions / standards (courts, rules, organisation - not about fancy prizes) available in the UK polo scene. All other UK tournaments are either run independently or to NS rulesets.

Giving the nature of the crown, on paper it doesn't seem right for a team to field a sub from outside of the UK just for this tournament - even if that team is still 2/3 majority UK. It's got nothing to do about the quality of the sub, it just goes against the very title of the tournament.

But ultimately, it's down to the UKHBPA to call the ruleset on this and make it clear prior to team reg opening.

U-turns can't be done now. But something to consider next year perhaps.

So in our case in France the National Championship is reserved to the french community, not a question of nationality really but more about if you live and play in a french city you can play at FHBPC.
That mean sub from rest of Europe not allowed to play.

It's fine B. Birmingham/UKHBPA made the 2/3 rule, you've followed that rule. It's completely fine. As soon as you start getting into "but this player is better than that player etc" bollocks it becomes subjective. Either it's 2/3 or 3/3 UK (I prefer the second personally), but you play to the rules, not to people's opinions. I'm sure most of the comments are in jest, but for the ones that aren't, you should have done it yourself them, DR have done nothing wrong.

We stepped up last minute and of course we will do the best we can but the decision was made not very long ago at a UKHBPA meeting and it's too late to change it now - at the end of the day it is not up to Birmingham to change it either. That call is nothing to do with this years UK Champs now so can we suck it up that it's 2/3 and get on with it? ;) (bs)

We're likely to be erecting barriers until sunset at the tournament courts, but people are more than welcome to play at Highate, which has a court, don't believe google maps. It's better than Downs IMO, partly due to the lack of football goals, but also because of the really fine-mesh barriers which make it impossible to catch your bars.

There's sometimes a few kids kicking a ball around, but they're usually young and don't mind making way for bike-snooker* players.

Saturday night is likely to be a pub night rather than a massive piss-up, but if that's what you want, speak to one of the cooler Birmingham players and they can tell you where to go. We're not going to outlaw boozing in the warehouse, but we're not going to encourage it either. People are going to want their sleep.

*A local woman actually called it this.
