As no-one seems to have responded to you, I thought I'd better. Particularly as A)Roberts' bikes are highly thought of here and B)We're supposed to be the friendliest forum on the internet.

Sad to hear about your uncle, part of my family are going through similar things right now.

What would you like to know about the bike? It looks excellent. Roberts would have asked something in the region of £500-£1000 just for the frame if built in the last ten years. As it's a 'loop' frame (i.e. what many might call a 'ladies'' frame) it may have less of a pull for selling on in places like this forum, if that's your plan. Since loops are great for older riders whatever their sex, and those with more limited flexibility or mobility, it may be that an accessible cycling organisation like wheels for wellbeing could really use a donation of a bike like this, or you could offer it at the CTC forum where there are lots of older riders who would appreciate what this bike is built for and it's value.

Best wishes to uncle and family to remain as happy and dignified as possible whilst coping with this debilitating condition.

I don't know if this is of any interest to you purists, but there are a pair of new Geoff Roberts frames in Phoenix Cycles, Eastbourne (he was part of the firm prior to family differences, to put it politely), they are rather nice.

Should get it back in December. Then to build it up.

Geoff uses Pheonix Cycles to build up his frames he builds for people if they need it, since I got mine and built it up another five club members have had some made.

I had this bike built up by Chas Roberts in 1983 while living in the UK. After sitting idle for the last 25 years, I've recently refurbished it and will enjoy it for many more years. (Cant seem to load pictures - will try again later).

A friend has a Stratton frame, how would I go about ascertaining if its a Roberts built one?

Get the serial number and a good start would be to contact Mark at Stratton Cycles in Wandsworth. Serial number is on base of bottom bracket. My bottom bracket is a Cinelli. White frame couple of posts up from yours. Hope this helps to start.

@phl67 thanks that was my next port of call. I wondered if the frame would have any identifying traits. Is yours confirmed as a Roberts?

Yes confirmed by Mark. See serial number on base of bottom bracket.

Hi,
Just joined into the great Roberts owners club, well at least I have a frame, and I'm looking for answers if poss. The number on the bottom braket and the steering tube is 247 and not recognised on the makers website. Frame not in great shape but will build up nicely. Can anyone give me steer on the age and what it would have been wearing in its heyday? It has Colombus drop-outs, steel frame, downshifter braze-ons and the rear forks are about 1250mm. Any help would be greatly appreciated?

I'd certainly be interested to know who, if anyone has one of the old original decals. Particularly the red outlined/gold lettering one.
I picked up a Chas Roberts Columbus Max frame (for me the dream) in a wretched state, probably perfect for a restoration, but can't bare to lose whats left of the original decals....and I like ratty bikes, but good to know if there's a proper option ever.

I haven't spoke to them, no. They would be the obvious first call, I guess.

Do you have a close up of the decals? They look (along with most resto's I've seen) a little clunkier than originals, on the "e" particularly, but a bit harder to tell with the solid colour. Did they offer outlined versions, or just solid colour?

It looks like they did a very tidy job overall though, how's it holding up and been riding? I had a 653, but not for nearly long enough.
