  • Thanks. It's about 58cm square in traditional geometry.

  • that's suberb. I always think the Audax bikes are where Roberts excel.

  • a real beauty. Great colour too.

  • I always think the Audax bikes are where Roberts excel.

Oddly enough, I thought the heavy-duty touring and tandem bicycle where Roberts excel at.

  • Can't wait to get it on the road but I am generally indecisive so will agonise over groupset wheels etc.

well that too, but personally I love the audax bikes

  • Recent run down to Brighton between Xmas and New year. The weather turned a bit grim....

Ditchling on 74GI is not much fun either.

  • Something very bad happened to my Roberts before Christmas. I dented it stupidely, it fell against a door frame at home...

I took pictures with a scale reference and emailed them to Roberts who were kind enough to look at them and chat with me over the phone. They believe this is cosmetic only. They only said that if I hit a car from the front the dent is where the tube would be likely to bend more than any other place. Appart from that, they feel it's OK to ride it (which was my feeling too, but it's good to talk to the specialists).

I contemplated the idea of leaving it like this, and riding it with pride like suggested Reeen (who gave me great moral support when I was "crying" over what had happened... yeah I know, first world problem...)

But I couldn't let it like this. If I break something I want to repair it.
So I started sanding the tube, mixing some good loctite filler I had left from works on my motorbike tank, sanding, priming... the usual things to do in such situation...

I first wanted to buy a spray can online with a corresponding RAL colour that I had identified with a RAL design sample (RAL 5010 Gentiane Blue). The problem with that is that it would be a plain colour, not a metallic finish and the tube would not match the rest of the bike. A metallic clear coat would lighten the colour...
When I went to Halfords to buy the primer, I notice they had a lot of blue spray cans, so I went back with the bike and found something very close.
I masked the "Chas Roberts" signature at the front of the tube as I was very keen to keep it. And I masked the rest of the bike, from the front top lug to the seat cluster lug.
A couple of paint layers, followed with 3 coats of clear lacquer. It's not perfect, but overall I'm very pleased with the result.

  • ^Had this happened to my Roberts I would have been mortified. Wish I had the skill, know how and precision to do such a neat job. Very well done!

  • Bought a lovely Roberts frame off primitive robot. Half way through build. Throwing on mavic ceramics with Dura Ace hubs with a modern touring group set. Will post pics when complete!

  • Roberts pilgrimage to Croydon alert, would be nice to get some RHBOC members involved:

  • Thought I'd put up a picture of my fairly recently acquired Roberts track bike.
Excuse the iphone picture I will try to take a better one at some point.
Was looking for a english steel track bike in my size for a while to take over to herne hill on the weekends and then this full campagnolo Roberts came up, fate surely.

  • Lovely. Where did you find that?

  • It was listed on eBay in Suffolk, sent the bloke an offer at my best price and it was accepted. Happy days!

  • ohhphhh thats lovely

  • Spotted this on the roberts website: http://www.robertscycles.com/robertsroadjersey.html

  • Tasteful! Is it? My judgement is shocking.

The keyrings look nice too. Might have one of those.

  • I'm pretty undecided on the jersey, not sure about the colours tbh.

I'm definateley looking at those keyrings however.

  • Saw the jerseys in te flesh at beapoked today. (Photos of the Roberts stand to follow) and they looked slightly less gaudy than in the pictures, severely tempted to get one!
