What's the current best way to backup a Windows machine?
I'm not bothered by file backup... I don't keep data files in a single place, that's covered.
I'm more worried about disaster recovery, i.e. disk failure and time to restore the system including all software installed and working.Basically full disk imaging is what I'm looking for.
Windows 10 built-in seems to only be file backup. I've installed the free Macrium Reflect for now... but what are others using, what is recommended?

System Imaging is still in W10 but well hidden in 'Backup and Restore (Windows 7)' - at least on my machine. Personally I don't use it, as I have a second machine with the most important applications on it.
In your scenario I would probably have a mirrored (RAID 1) pair of system drives. That should give you zero downtime on single drive failure. But it's not going to protect against downtime on PSU or motherboard failure.

I did see the Win7 stuff still there... but it seems to be discouraged by MS which isn't a great thing.

Whats the best place to get the 3060 GPU's when they drop next month?
-

I use MiniTool ShadowMaker https://www.minitool.com/backup/system-backup.html (mainly because I use their Partition Magic a lot).
It seems fine but I've never actually had to restore an image from it.

We use Veeam at work for physical and virtual machine backups

My 3090 arrived but where oh where can I get a 5950x?
Anyone read anything about incoming stock? A chap in Germany said he can get one and ship to me. Which I might do tbh but for any issues it'd be easier to have a UK retailer to deal with. -

TFW everything has been delivered except a unicorn PSU which definitely hasn't been 'handed to resident'.

Where \ when did you order your 3090?

Overclockers around the 12th? Came about a week later. It said on the page that they were expected for the 19th and arrived just after. It was a bit of a gamble as I wasn't sure how big the back log was but I went for the Vision to match the motherboard.
That said, after I purchased I looked on their forum and found they have a fairly clear guide on what stock arrives when and how many are back ordered etc. The Vision 3090 is in really low demand despite being the least gamey looking. Also if you search Reddit for a Scan link you can get the founders edition every week. They don't have it public on their site but on Mondays Nvidia release a batch of them and the link on the Nvidia site goes through to Scan. I just bookmarked the page and refreshed it sporadically. Had them in my basket a few times but the Vision called to me and I got lucky.

I looked on their forum
Bet that was fun
I'm 40ish days waiting on a 5600x and a boggo RTX 3080 from PC Specialist at the moment.
Probably in for another 40 days at least, by most accounts.
Still - my GTX 660M is almost the same, right?

Bet that was fun
A forum jam packed with insular inbred fuckos, opinions no one needs to hear and white knight complexes for the admins and their rules.
(And as for Overclockers etc. )

Sweet, enjoy the build!
I put this monster together last weekend, was I little worried about thermals but so far so good. Had to fork out a bit extra to get the FE cards but the cooling system seems to be much better then the 3rd party 3 fan models, especially when stacked, top card doesn’t go over 75deg. In hindsight sight should probably have gotten a bigger case hah

Ooh, dual. Fancy. What are you doing with it? How did you find the case?
Oddly before I got the Vision I contemplated getting a stack of blower versions (which Jigsaw 24 has loads of) and just doing a home made render farm but thought my wife wouldn't appreciate the noise.

That's quite something. Where on earth is the PSU?
Those y-splitters are proper ugly tho. Discovered last week that the Corsair 12-pin cable was available so have just replaced mine.
-
• #6823
PSU is an ASUS Thor 1200w, didn’t have a lot of choice as most are out of stock everywhere..
Have seen a build with different cables, definitely going to replace them at some point as they really stick out

• #6824
Yeah was a real splurge but got a decent amount of work coming in and will end up paying off pretty quickly I think. It’s going to be used for 3D rendering, nearly over 8 times faster then what I was previously using 🙏 Case was from Overclockers.

That's a big bump. What were you upgrading from? How are you linking the cards?
Works just fine.
