  • Wouldn't go that far BRO... but it is decent enough.

  • Cheers.

Had a tweak, but to no avail.

However I did find a program that could read the EDID and I'm getting the monitor's maximum resolution and refresh rate via VGA.

So I'm not sure I'd gain much with DVI.

Not enough to justify the getting into the registry at any rate.

  • Just swapped cases.... predictably it doesn't fit as it was meant to which is most annoying. Cutting out the back of the cabinet its in may work.
I now have a spare Sharkoon C AM case and a Corsair 430W Builders PSU... oh and an extra 80mm fan... if anyones interested I just need it gone so £10 for the whole lot. Would make a good HTPC build (just gets too hot when gaming as its a very small case).

  • If you are willing to post then I am.

    possible dibs...

  • kids pc had this error: Reboot and select proper boot device

took the HD out with intention of sticking it into a caddy to see if it was fubar. Couldn't find power supply for caddy. Stuck HD back into pc and all worked fine. odd.

on another topic; what's the best way of mirroring a folder on PC hard drive and nas?

i have a big flac library on the nas which is how i run my music through the stereo. When I get a new CD, i rip it to a folder on the PC hard drive. I want it to automatically mirror this folder onto the nas so I have two identical libraries.

Seems ever so straightforward, but I am too stupid. Messed about with Bit Torrent synch but haven't managed to get that to work.

  • Ahh sorry buddy, can't really post.. would cost a packet.

  • Also, just doubled checked measurements, it's Bitfenix's mistake, not mine, tossers.... 1.5cm + discrepancy.

  • Assuming they're on the same local network I thin Synctoy should do what you want.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=15155

  • looks good - will try that.

    thanks

  • My laptop is short on space, I've done some tidying up but the main issue is my music is duplicated on my C: and D: drives.
Sadly, both folders are not identical, so I cant just delete one, but assuming I can solve that issue, then would it be better to keep the music on D:, right?

    C: = 291 out of 304gb of which 135gb is music
    D: = 191 out of 255gb of which 151gb is music

(itunes points to the music on C:, but I think I can repoint it)

  • Do you have two separate disks or are they just logical drives on the same disk?

  • One physical disk. My limited understanding is that C should be used for doing stuff and D for storage

Steam is unplayably slow. Hoping removing of duplicates would speed that up.

  • Now running synctoy, all very straight-forward.

only slight problem is that it wants to overwrite over 4,000 of the files on the NAS. It doesn't recognise that they are the same. tried various ways to avoid this step, but other than manually unchecking over 4,000 actions, couldn't find a way.

I'm now just letting it run which I guess will take a while, but hopefully only have to do this step once and then it will just add new stuff.

  • I don't think it will make a difference which logical drive you store your music on. The only situation it would make a difference would be if you were going to be accessing lots of tiny files across your logical partitions. Music files aren't tiny and don't require lots of IOPS to playback from.

I'd keep your OS on C and music on D. Keep in mind that if your physical disk fails, you have no added redundancy from having data split across partitions. Keep a backup on a 2nd device for safety.

  • Why did you go for the Stealth and Core versus just getting a Blade or Blade Pro? From what I've seen you can't use 10 series GTX with the Core, you have to jump right up to the Titan and that's an extra £1k on your build...

I'm really struggling with picking a laptop and I think I need to just ask for help (probably mental help too) as I've just been going in circles online and driving myself absolutely crazy.

  • I'm doing the same. Plus the complication of it having to be a mac. Considering a small MacBook Pro, then a home built egpu for gaming at home under windows coupled to maybe a 4K monitor.

  • The new xps 15 looks bananas.
    4K, GTX 1050, 32GB, Kaby Lake.

Must run DayZ at 15 fps, at least.

  • yeah but what's the price??

    For £1,500 here's the spec I've found:

    Skylake i7 6700HQ processor - Kaby Lake 7700 isn't available on a laptop yet and I'd rather have a previous gen 700HQ or K than a current gen 500U
    24GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM - 8GB soldered and 16GB slot
    GTX 1060 6GB DDR5 GPU
    128GB PCIe SSD
    1TB 7200RPM HDD
    FHD Matte IPS screen

    Thunderbolt 3 Port and G-Sync

I'm ashamed to say it looks like a 12 year old's wet dream

  • That leaked spec looks tasty but upgrade that GTX 1050 to a 1060 at least and that's a 2k laptop

  • Still half the price of a MacBook Pro.

  • It even has an SD card slot.

  • I wish the MacBooks were that powerful but dells still look cheap.

  • The don't feel cheap though. Pretty solid.
