The only sensible way to use a USB boot drive is to get a USB 3 enclosure with UASP and put whatever SSD you can be bothered buying in there.

UASP is really important if you're going to do this. The enclosures cost about a tenner on amazon.

Bear in mind that TRIM won't work over USB but that isn't really an issue. Just keep 30% of the drive free so it can handle its own garbage collection.

It's very plasticky but there's no tools involved so it's super easy to set up and it works flawlessly. You can get a Sandisk SSD for about £60...

Anything else out there I should be looking at? Maybe I should just get something proper cheap.

2 month dredge but I thought the obscene RAM requirements for ZFS were only when using L2ARC & deduplication? Currently getting away with 2GB for a 24TiB filesystem on a backup node at work using zfsonlinux & centos 7. It is used to hold snapshots of 12TiB of rsync'd files.

I've had it on my to-do list since it was first mentioned but since this wasn't dead felt obliged to wait. Then Brexit fucked everything. Idiot Brexit fucks.

It didn't, it took less time than some people on here take to change a tube. Also, generally hardware gets cheaper, which is why I'm not paying more than I've seen it for.

I have one and I'm waiting on material specs for the other. It's getting more expensive daily.

Hive mind, I'm having router issues.

I have just bought a NETGEAR D7800-100UKS Nighthawk AC2600 Dual Band 11 AC (MU-MIMO Wi-Fi) VDSL/ADSL Modem Router. I have plusnet broadband as my ISP.

I cannot seem to get the dang thing to connect to the internet (second light is orange). Are they actually compatible? Am i missing something?

Any help appreciated.

If so, possibly the ISP. Turn off the ISP modem for a few minutes. They probably cache the MAC address.

This is supposed to be a modem/router. But i have tried it on its own and connected via the old modem.

But ill give a longer turn off/on idea.
