What's a good VPN service to use to watch the classics with when they start?
I did have a free tunnel bear account a few years ago but couldn't get it to work properly (probably due to user error tbh) so something simple to set up would be good. -

Paid for? I have used Nord for years and am very happy with it.

Don't mind paying if I can do it monthly. I'll have a look at that thanks.

In the finest tradition of Google it looks like they are getting rid of the Google VPN.

I find their announcement really confusing. So, they are discontinuing VPN, but if you have a Pixel 7 or 8, you can still use it?

Google are discontinuing their standalone VPN product, but Android 7 and onward has a native VPN built into its OS, accessible via Settings.
That’s how I read that anyway.

As a Google One and Pixel owner I got the same.
I didn't realise you got it with newer pixels, but knew it came with One. I had a nord subscription anyway so haven't used it.
But yeah it's just the One VPN product.

But.... can we trust a vpn built by Google in a Google phone?
A toll to the tunnel must be paid

Interesting! Had never heard of that before.
One of the names sounded very familiar and it seems I had some interaction with Jim Gillogly in the
uk.rec.motorcycles
newsgroup way back in 2001. Coincidentally it was a contest to solve a half-arsed cipher that someone had knocked up. -

I would regularly get over 10 mbps speeds through my Tor browser. But lately I very rarely get above 500 kbps. Any idea what happened?

It is always up and down, do you get it on different circuits? Could be some kind of attack I guess. There are some onion forums that would probably say if there is some kind of issue

Fewer people on shift reading everything coming through.

DuckDuckGo broken for anyone else? Fails on my machine and on a remote machine so I'm assuming it's them not me.

Yep, has been for a few hours

Bing is down, innit
-
• #3372
Yeah, I normally assume stuff like this is my fault for blocking stuff or using a VPN and it'll sort eventually but it got annoying so I checked a remote box and same issue. I couldn't see anywhere to report an issue so I'll just assume someone else has.

we have more traditional links and images in our search results too, which we largely source from Bing.
Also, you're a misconception.

"DuckDuckGo leverages many sources, including specialized sources like Sportradar and crowd-sourced sites like Wikipedia. We also maintain our own crawler (DuckDuckBot) and many indexes to support our results. Of course, we have more traditional links and images in our search results too, which we largely source from Bing."
"As per our strict privacy policy, we never share any personal information with any of our partners that could lead to the creation of search histories."
