  • Same as halifax, but you also have a password of mixed characters.

HSBC is very secure, with a number generator accessed via a password. Creates 2 factor, as need to get onto my phone to get onto password generator app.

  • Lloyds has the same as well - password of mixed characters.

  • Yeah true, plaintextoffenders used to be more active too.

  • Shame they're a pretty shady bank though.

  • yeah, I hate sites that do that.

I'd also put money on them blocking pasting into password fields to try and block password managers.

Bank Grade security - no ta.

  • They're all shady!

  • A speck of good news in an otherwise pretty shitty year

  • Noob question, I am about to get a vpn, PIA seems to be tho vpn of choice on lufguss so I'll go with that. Is it easy enough to switch on and off on different devices when you want if it's not allowing access to Netflix/ player etc? Can you rurn it off on one device but leave on on others?

  • Yup, easy to turn on and off...

AFAIK You're limited to three devices, I expect that could work...

  • I think PIA is 5 devices.

On that note, has anyone managed to set up PIA using the OpenVPN client (on Windows or Android) rather than using their client. I've followed the instructions but doesn't seem to connect.

  • I think PIA is 5 devices

Used to be three, would be happy if it has gone up to five devices...

  • Cheers, PIA is 5. Was v easy to set up 👍🏼

  • I signed up to a dd for something.

The company then emailed me, in one email, with my bank details and full address; confirming it was correct?
They had starred the first 4 account number details?

I was pissed they'd emailed me information input into a secure form. Am I right in being pissed?

  • Yes.

Email is a plain text message.

That email includes enough information for someone to attempt identity theft.

  • That was my thought. I emailed them telling them so.

They had paypal as an option and I would have used it, had I known. It would have cost me a bit more money, but I'd be ok with that.

FYI. This was a subscription to rouleur.

  • They charge more for PayPal?

I think they will discover that this is against PayPal's T&C's as a seller.

I typically will use PayPal for everything for pretty much this reason. I can trust sellers to secure a transaction, but not the account details and not to let slip info in convenience emails like this.

  • I just checked... they charge the same for PayPal as other methods.

Horribly insecure site though... a shopping cart on Wordpress. I would definitely have used PayPal.

  • Live and learn. Should have been more aware. I saw HTTPS and green so figured it was secure.

    Pypal is more.
    4 issues for £40; £10
    8 issues for £78; £9.75

Where as DD is 4 issues for £36; £9

  • Rouleur emailed me back; finally. Poor response.

  • So out of curiosity, with the US snooping on everyone, is there a possible threat using PIAs US connection? Just curious if, like FATCA and US forex laws, they'd have a back door to PIA to monitor who's who?

  • It's certainly safer for you if you enter and exit PIA from different countries as doing so in the same country does make it easier for anyone monitoring both ends of the VPN to correlate which requests match up.

i.e. if you're in the UK and surface in the US... you're probably OK.
If you're in the UK and surface in the UK... think about it a bit.
If you're in the USA and surface in the USA... think about it a bit.

  • On the subject of PIA and its equivalents, what general steps do people take to protect against a VPN connection dropping, and more specifically, what do people do when using something like a DD-WRT'd router?
