would be super hard to d.i.y some steelies because of the steel sole plate in most i would've thought.

This is going to be epic. Pedal envy.
I think there is a market for bespoke racks, I also know someone. -
• #29
Looking good dude.
How are you fitting the crown race to the fork with all that tigging blobbed all over the bottom of the steerer? turned it in a lathe?
-
• #30
Yeah I popped it in the lathe and turned it down. ( ♥ the colchester chipmaster at work!)
Looking forward to making more, neater TIGed/brazed racks in different styles

back from the painters..
hopefully build it up sometime this week

• #32
what a colour!
look forward to seeing it finished now
-
• #33
I think that's the colour my daughter wanted our tandem. Bravo!

Lady penelope is rolling!
It handles really well with a load, it also has a great turning circle, but the frame is noticeably out of alignment (the ht is twisted to the right), but that's nothing I can't fix with a clamp and a bar!
First load was the bike I rode to PUSH cycles on (where I built it up, massive thanks!)
Still need to add gear cable and the front brake.

That cool Max. Love the angles
-
• #36
Well done. It looks awesome.
-
• #37
Thanks guys!
Added mudguards today, first bike with guards ever!
-
• #38
I can't see it.
Ha ha. No it looks fantastic. A top build, well done
-
• #39
It rides so nice! Its all I can think about!
Can anyone recommend a good clamp on centre kickstand?
-

Ace Max!
-
• #41
That look fantastic.
BB look very high - little worried that it might be a hair too high for a kickstand.
The hebie two legged kickstand might be o.k. with that, had one before and they were pretty tough, should be enough to keep the front end straight;
alternatively you can have a steering stabilizer connected the downtube with the fork;
-
• #42
what about a rear mounting kickstand which usually clamp around the non-driveside seat- and chainstays
-
• #43
Wouldn't advised that, it tilted the bike at an angle, so when you have a heavy front end, the bike will most likely fall.
They are excellent kickstand though;
-
• #44
If you want a steering stabiliser, look into the Hopey Steering Damper
-
• #45
^ how does that work?
-
• #47
I think they're creating solution for problem that doesn't exist generally, especially when 20" wheel often help the bike to feel normal under weight.
-
• #48
Might have to build a stand into the next rack.
No idea why you'd need to stabilise the steering, with the trail at 40 it handles awesoe!
-
• #49
It's brilliant!

Can anyone recommend a good clamp on centre kickstand?
As stated the Hebie is good and was standard fitment on a lot of Pashley RM92 (Postie's bikes). The downsides are it will make your parked bike very tall as your BB will be @350mm off the ground and when retracted it reduces your ground clearance dramatically. It may well catch on kerbs.
Cracking build by the way.
Nice, but still wouldnt want to be going up and down steps and what not with cleats.
Took it to the painters today, get it back on thurs, pics when i build it up!
