chopped the DT and HT out of the old frame and chased it back, then took the 1 1/8th steerer, turned it out on the lathe a little bit and made it fit nice over the bmx fork's steerer then, TIGed it up.
now i've gotta get mitring!

This looks flippin ace. Been harbouring a long term desire to do a similar thing to my beater, will be watching this thread closely. Good on ya.

So i've done the frame drawing by hand. Got my angles and lengths, now i'm going to use this tube mitre program: http://metalgeek.com/static/cope.pcgi to print out the mitres.
I'm about to build my alfine into a 26" rim (Halo T2). First full wheel build, so we'll see how that goes.
I've been thinking about putting a front disc brake on the forks, i also just bought some forks for my polo bike that also need a disc mount, so i'm going to buy a cheap hub, put the rotor on and the caliper on the mount to tack them on in the right place. Then i want to build the hub into a 20" rim.
However, the only 20" rims that CRC have seem to be BMX, but ones like this
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=19959
can be had as cheap as £10Can you only put bmx tyres on a bmx rim, or will any 20" tyre fit on?

I had a 20" wheel shopper and bought the wrong diameter tyres. Despite saying 20" there were quite a few different diameters.

nice thanks ed, i reckon i will just go with bmx rim and tyre to be safe.
i built the alfine up, my first wheel build! went pretty well, minimal cursing.

I have x2 Michelin Diablo whitewall tyres size 20 x 1 3/8 (other numbers read 37 - 451)
Yours for a pint at the Orwell if you want them, welcome to try them on a rim first.

I have some tubes too (old with woods valves) if you want them

Getting there, just need to mitre the DT/to BB joint.
The tube mitre program i ended up using was this one on the Nova website:
http://www.cycle-frames.com/bicycle-frame-tubing/Tabbed-Tube-Notcher.htmlit worked perfectly, cut out the mitre draw around it, go at it with a grinder with a flapper disc!

Ive got a front BMX wheel sitting on my balcony if you want it. The hub is dead but rim is fine. Free ofcourse.

All mitred up, i made a pretty shonky jig, clamping th BB shell to the (relatively) flat welding table, i figure out my centre line and went from there, using some tube blocks (found a 32mm holesaw, very convenient for my 31.8 tubes) and other bits of scrap flat bar to get the tubes in the right place :
tacked it all up:
might make the headtube a bit shorter on the top.

And?

so, frame is all TIGed up.
i want to build the front wheel, and offer the parts up to see where is should put the rack.
I've made some rack mounts out of steel tube with a thick wall, tapped for m7.
Now just to design the rack, i've been looking for some inspiration around the web, but i'll probably go with box section mild steel for v1.
Then i need to move the cantis on the rear down for a 26". And braze some seatclamp bolts on (not enough ST sticking out, Doh!)

Today I got on it.
Added the rack mounts, also added some on the top of the headtube, in case I want to use them for other rack designs (or beer holders!)
I also made rack eyelets for the back and a seatpost clamp and brazed those on, respaced the rear to 135, and brazed a disc tab on the fork.I then knocked up a quick and dirty rack (v1):
So excited about all the racks I can make in the future!
Pretty much ready to go to the painters, not sure what colour yet, maybe green or red
I Got a nice pair of time pedals for it, with flats on one side. So I can ride in steel toes!

When you do start making racks- I'd definitely have one...
Lovely work -

I want to see a row of optics above the beer crates, just in front of the handlebars!
So, i've decided that all good frames deserve to go to cargo heaven.
I built my own polo bike on a course in portland a while back, nothing fancy just 4130 mtb-ish looks, but it was the first frame i ever built.
I then travelled with it a whole bunch and at some point along the way i think my axle must have dinged my DT right where it meets the HT. As i was riding home one day it cracked:
So, to revitalise it, i'm turning it into a cycle truck. I have bought some cheap 20" forks, a nice long HT, new DT and a 1 1/8th steerer.
this is what i have designed on bike cad:
i'm going to make the back wheel a 26" with an alfine, and i'm going to braze attachments on the HT and DT so i can swap out the racks.
Anyway, i'll post more as i get going!
