Having much admired LMNH and the Rapha pop-up cycle cafe they did the year before last and, this weekend, we watched the Ronde from the delightful ambience of the brasserie linked to the Ronde museum - http://www.crvv.be/nl/crvv/brasserie
Agreed that Manchester should have a social cycle meeting place that has a sporty feel and I'm interested in getting involved - if anyone wants to meet up to flesh out a proposition/share skills etc. PM me.

^^^ only place sure to have shown it would be the cafe at the national cycling centre, 3 medium screens.
I will try catch some tdf mountain stages there this summer if no closer to centre venues turn up.

Ooof, that's criminal. They were showing the track world champs on Saturday lunchtime after my bmx shift, thought it was a given they'd show other bike events.

Just had a discussion with a bar owner regarding the possibility of this. Has a unit in chorlton he wants to use, seemed very interested in the cycling idea. Very promising. Watch this space.

Location is crucial - LMNH is on Old Street, one of the busiest cycling roads in London. If you were to site something similar here, you should seriously consider Wilmslow Rd/Oxford Rd etc. As a resident of 8 years, I know that's Chorlton has a history of 'experimental' bars, however I don't see an overtly strong cycling culture here, just a lot of varied competition.

I see more cyclists when I head through Chorlton than I do round Levy, obviously not as many as on Wilmslow road with all the students, but if you're playing "spot the fixie skidder" there tends to be more more down Wilberham road (all based on useless speculation of course). Good thing whatever is that most of Manchester is close on a bike.

I've been seeing a lot of singlespeed bikes (many Wills Wheels ones) blasting down the A6 through Levy. Unfortunately I also see a number of the 'yoof' riding bikes that I seriously doubt have a legit history. The guy on a Cannondale Super V and young lad this morning on a Orange FS rig being ones that especially made me wonder which poor sod lost their pride and joy.

www.popupbikes.co.uk/ could be similar to LMNH, hope to check out this week...
Dropped in this eve (about half 5). The guy running seems to have the right ideas, and they've got a nice setup with storage, coffee, seating, workshop etc.
Hope it's succesful, will return myself. Did mention appeal of having somewhere like that but with added ability to watch classics, TdF etc... fingers crossed.

Likewise. It's always good to put faces to names from this place and local selling is so much nicer they farting around with e-bay. I'm ordering new toys this week, the one armed nodder will ride again soon!

Popped into pop up cycles yesterday and stole his last sandwich, was pretty quiet and he's working 12 hour days at the moment but seemed like a cool place, he's a really nice guy and does a pretty good brew. Gonna go back and plaster the noticeboard in polo flyers.
