  • Oooooooh matron!

    You love it Pisti!

  • even the great sheldon brown said it was ok to run without lockrings....
    Where?

Most flip-flop hubs are only threaded for a lockring on one side, but the sprocket/freewheel thread is the same, so you can screw a fixed sprocket onto the freewheel side. I'd put the smaller sprocket on the side without the lockring, because it's less likely to come unscrewed

  • is he talking about use on the track possibly ?

i presume you use a front brake ?

  • do track bikes have flip flops? and yes i do use a front brake, sometimes a rear brake too.

it's simple basic mechanical advantage, the advantage of the lever (centre of the wheel to the tyre) is greater than the advantage of the pedal length (including allowing for the gearing). coupled with the fact that the friction required between the tyre and road surface to stop the wheel with enough force to unscrew the sprocket is far greater than the friction capable of being generated by the 24c tyres i run.

as i said before pretty safe imo.

  • On a track, fine... Elsewhere, madness...

  • On a track, fine... Elsewhere, madness...

why? evidence of it not being safe?

  • Are you mental or just very, very stupid?

  • Are you mental or just very, very stupid?

neither just want to know. i've seen lots of stuff saying rotafixed sprockets being bastards to get off but not a lot of stuff on rotafixed sprockets coming loose.

  • why do all the hub manufacturers put lock ring threads on their hubs if rotafix is " the way to do it "
are they just showing off their engineering prowess ?

  • It's like 2007 in here, epic no0b fixeh fail...

This rear wheel would be absolutely fine on the track because you won't be applying any backwards pressure at the velodrome... It's strictly verboten...
However, on the street you will be, and no matter how tight you reckon you've got the sprocket on or if you've stuck a BB lockring on there as well and then Loc-tited the shit out of it, it will still fail when you least expect it...
Probably when you're on one of those big hills you were talking about...

isn't it easier just to put up a link than not trying to help out?

  • BTW Great wheels, I would buy these in a second if I still rode track...

    brilliant

  • it'll only be good for a single speed sprocket.

  • brilliant

thanks, it was in reply to this.

Where's the bit that Sheldon Brown says it is ok to run without lockrings?

  • i was not aware, thanks for clearing that up

  • sheldon was a fearless motherlover

Because its the law when selling bikes. Must have two brakes, reflectors and a bell. With the expection of some track specific bikes that aren't drilled for brakes.

  • ok troll has been fed enough

  • Coming to the draw your own collisions thread soon:

  • I've seen lockrings and cogs come off downhill and on the flat. If you are not quick with your footie, its not pretty

  • Coming to the draw your own collisions thread soon:

nice bike dude, is it for sale?!
