Did I read somewhere that you guys are getting a court built at Herne Hill? How's this coming along?
-
• #1181
The surface for two courts will be finished this week. We are in the process of raising funds/sourcing sponsorship for the barriers which currently have permission but there is no money left to pay for them... so close!
-
• #1182
How much would they cost? could a fundraising tournament (using the wooden barriers) raise enough?
-
• #1183
The problem is they have to be taken down after every throw-in session/tournament because of the track sightlines so if we were to invest in a long term solution like a modular system it would cost thousands. There will be several fundraisers in the next few months but really, a private sponsor would be the quickest solution. Something which is better dicussed in the LHBPA forum. We are working on a wood donation form Herne Hill's suppliers for temporary boards at the moment though.

Pity it can't have hardcore perspex barriers like a squash court. Super pricey though!
-
• #1185
Indeed. If anyone has seen any barriers that they think could work, please let us know!
-
• #1186
Or if anyone has a big bundle of cash they'd like to donate....

Amen.

I've thought about it, but I'd need to find another cushty guardian deal ;) plus, all my work is based North and it's nice to go home on your lunch break!

Guardianing FTW.
Noticed there was an AdHoc guardian property between the tourney courts and the Shell garage in Bristol.

Forgetting budget for the moment, the best setup I've seen is Karlsruhe, HDPE on an Alu frame.
Super strong, smooth, should be fairly light, no issue with damp, etc.
Not cheap though.
If you do get a budget, please let me know, I might have some ideas for courts, portable or permanent.
-
• #1192
Why not share those ideas now so that if we think they're viable, we can work towards the cost?
-
• #1193
Well, the ideas depend on the budget, £2000, or £20,000 gives you very different options. And I'm guessing there are various reasons for keeping the budget off a public forum for the moment (you don't want people ripping you off). All I ask is if you could talk to me before you make a final decision.
