Effect reminds me of (although it's clearly not in the same league) O.Winston Link's nocturnal locomotives. Are you sure it's chopped, rather than just weirdly lit? You can download the 15MB 33M pixel version complete with EXIF data if you want a closer look.

I thought the F14 tomcat retired, with the exception of Iran. Imagine my surprise when 3 of the buggers streaked over the A69 into Spadeadam Tuesday afternoon
Unless anyone can name any other likely twin finned twin engined variabe swept wing alternatives..?

There aren't, and they can't have been F-14s (unless they were Iranian. So they weren't). Almost certainly F-15s from Lakenheath. The F-15E is very easy to mistake for a Tomcat from some angles.

blimey you're right, they were close enough to make out the LN on the fin, cheers radar

^ That one's from the Russian Knights display team, I saw them at the Leuchars airshow in 1992. Up until their display, the loudest thing I'd ever experienced had been the Vulcan some 30 minutes before. They were a bit noisy.

Prob mentioned afore but I went to Farnborough as a lad in my old mans 5 series. I thought they were put together well in Bavaria. Until an F-15 rattled every bolt on that car on full burn on the way in. My ears were ringing for a bit... /csb

^^ that photo makes that thing look massive. SU27?
-
• #1490
SU-27 is actually slightly longer overall than an Avro Lancaster. Empty and MTOW weights are remarkably close at around 16 tonnes empty and 30/32T MTOW.

Typical Russian solution to their inability to make good jet engines and light avionics. In terms of useful capability, Tu-160 should sit alongside the B-1B, but it's a good 20% heavier empty. Relative to the economy, it's also even more expensive than a B-2, so on any given day the VVS is doing well if it has half a dozen of them in a combat ready condition.

Anyone know when Vulcan is flying next? I spent many hundreds of hours as a teenager volunteering at an aviation museum, giving tours of XM612 and sanding, buffing, painting it. Never seen one fly...

Still cant believe it barrel rolled at Farnborough back in the day...

bitd, 1970's mildenhall, vulcan take off and full afterburner as it rotates and roars straight up slowing twisting until disappeared.
lightning and starfighter pulling similar after screeching over the runway at 50ft.

A me-too C-5 clone modified to piggy-back a me-too Space Shuttle clone.

"The other shuttle..?" Wait..What?? So that West Wing storyline that ruined the whole series for me wasn't a load of old guff???
Dear cameraman,
