annoyingly e4 looks the better route for cutting short but, tbh, I'm not a big fan of leaving the bikes outside of that pub on the high street. Does anyone have anything against Roydon and that perfect little pub just past the train station ?

Right then, shorter route which should take no more than an hour and a half giving us time for a few pints and a ride back into town or lazy train back. If we're getting on well at half way we can continue on :)
