  • Possibly out, just broke a spoke on my track bike and don't have shoes for my road bike yet (warranty replacement).

  • Get out the sheets folks. Still at work and likely to be here for at least another hour. If I'm not there, don't wait for me.

  • Just munching then leaving. Guess we're all aiming for 19.40 now

  • fuck it, SPD skate shoes will work. See you all in 1h!

  • Des and I by the new ticket office. I haz cake!

  • Blue all the way in, grey over Potters Bar. Dry though.

  • ended up doing brixton - potters bar - brixton with a little spin with the tnrc crew in the middle.

got to potters bar just after 8 to find the train had been delayed so had a coffee and chat with ludwig, friday, TV and dan. crew arrived about 8:30. was gonna bail then and head straight home as i have a super early start (as usual) but saw everyone including skulls, gus and jaygee (on fixed) and decided to hell with it. but then a couple of miles in poor old matt had a bang! sisssssssssss! over a pot hole and we had to stop for double puncture. waited for a while then gus and i decided to just ride home so we sadly said goodbye to the crew.

me and gus 2 man TTTed it back to highgate in what must have been a pretty quick time then i continued on to brixton at a similar pace. home by 10:15 but my legs are a bit jelly like!

good to see everyone, albeit briefly. cheers for the ride back, angus!

  • but then a couple of miles in poor old mat had a bang! sisssssssssss! over a pot hole and we had to stop for double puncture.

I bet this happened right in the middle of nowhere, too.

  • Yet again Potters bar seems to e doomed. Still had good fun and it was DRY out there ladies and gents!

Actually... That's a good point. Where are the ladies at the moment? I might have to steal some Essex afterworkers!

  • I bet this happened right in the middle of nowhere, too.

No, it was just around middle and leg. Pulled out to go round jaygee straight into a succession of pot holes, both tyres went. Cheers to Des for the tube, I owe you. Sorry for truncating your ride Joe and Gus,I know you were already pushed for time after the train delay.

Lovely night despite all that, and nice pint in the 'spoons to finish.

  • Top route, that. Cheers all.

brixton - potters bar - brixton

    Little known randonnée.

  • Glad I'm not commuting today - we lucked out with the weather last night. Lovely bit of riding even if that route does seem to be jinxed. Fine bit of navigation by Ludwig to take us off piste and trade the last few miles for a pint. If only Messi could have been equally efficient. Good to have Skully and Gus out there again on a Tuesday and hope to see you back Danns.

  • Joe
I'm sorry! We had a pint in a weatherspoons, found the main entrance shut so had to go under a bridge a round the back to get in... and thus totally forgot the mudguard you stashed.

    All:
Awesome evening, dry clear and fresh. Small group and really fun.

Heard calls of two birds of prey, I wasn't able to guess what they were.

  • Great little ride last night. Still revelling in getting a pint for under £3. It was like going back in time.

Not sure where Ludwig and I got off the train, but it wasn't Finsbury Park.

    Roll on next TNRC.

  • Great ride, good idea from Des to cut the ride short and go to the pub.

Talk like this will not do our reputation any good, tho smart move to shift the blame onto Des.

  • Thanks to all for an excellent introduction to TNRC. Despite a pretty shit journey up to the start I thoroughly enjoyed the ride, and ended up riding back home too. Hope I join you all for the next one in 2 weeks time!

  • Do people usually ride this fg/ss or on road bikes?

I dont have a fg/ss bike any more, admittedly.

  • ask bmmf

a lot do them fixed, but some use geared bikes

none of the rides are impossible fixed, and frequently the geared riders are not the fastest people up the hills (or even down them), it can be too tempting to drop into an easier gear when the option is there

  • Don't ask me. Just read the thread / use the 'search this thread' tool.

Don't listen to dj either. Ever.

I'm an occasional participant and nothing more this year. Unless I lead a new route, in which case, don't ask me anything, just stay behind me.

Some fixed, some on road bikes. You would be welcome either way in my experience.

  • This was one of my questions before coming out - I opted for road bike to make sure I could keep pace over the varied terrain. As it turned out, the standard 74ish gear inches on my track bike would have been pretty tough on a lot of it, and was a fair bit higher than what everyone else seemed to be using (63-68 inches seemed popular).

  • This was one of my questions before coming out

I can see why size mattered, given the context.
