What sort of length of pole do you guys shoot for with mallets? Should I use the pole Adam lent me as a guide for length or is it dependant on height/frame size?
-
• #334
Floor to hip is a reasonable estimate, I think most people have 95cmish give or take a bit depending on size.
-
• #335
and it's always easier to cut more off than add it on.
-
• #336
Cheers man, should have my mallet done by Thurs at earliest, maybe Sunday, might ask Neil if he can whip me up a decal to go on the shaft in bubblegum lettering.
-
• #337
I'd maybe start off longer than mine, in a quick comparison the other night most people's were longer... More like 100cm

Mallet build progressing slowly along. 3x 125mm kindly cut by my landlord on his band saw. Quote - 'It's bloody horrible stuff', I'm going to have to do some serious cleaning / cooking / grovelling to get access to the rest of the workshop :-(
I would have gone for 3 120's and had a 4th head of 110mm out of it but... well you can see for yourself:

Sand wedge for Brighton maybe???

That was straight through my eyes. It's the rest of the world that's at a funny angle.

If that's your version of straight I guess you'd consider Graham Norton as butch.

Sand wedge for Brighton maybe???it is a shame how much will be wasted because of the cutting, Chris il bring you another 120mm
also the full order was 6M, dont know where i got 10M from but its still plenty
-
• #342
In fairness to the Wonkey one, 6m is a long length to get in one piece so I can understand the need for a couple of quick cuts to get it into manageable chunks. I've got 3 good heads out of my length and Nate might be able to use the remainder to make mini-nate his micro mallet.
Next time we do a group order I'll try and get a chop saw on standby (landlord has one but it's out on long term loan to a mate of his) then we can just cut 120 - 130 direct and let people have them as blank heads for a fixed cost each.
-
• #343
As for the ordered 10, but got 6 and it's still plenty. That's something that most average men can relate to... even if their girlfriends don't think so.

• #344
I've got O'Shane's chop saw in the cellar of the house I bought but I need to fetch it and I haven't anywhere for it in my room.
-
• #345
I'll look after it
-
• #346
I use one of these, works well to get straight cuts
-
• #347
I realised after you mentioned it that I have something similar in my basement. I just hacked at it quick before as it was massive and I needed to get it more manageable before the kid got home.

The kid was already home, it was just concerned that it might get told off by the responsible child.
