You make some good points. I might yet go for a wobble with some weights stuck to the head of the mallet I borrowed to see what I think on that one. I've already noticed differences with the couple of mallets that I've tried in the last two weeks, the grip is another area that I need to get sorted. If you spot me in the Cringle with a protractor then you know I've completely lost it.
I'm still trying to work out bike setup too. There might be some serious modifications before Sunday...

You'll never stop changing stuff, it's the polo way

Ok, Update on the Poles & Heads, LHBPA apparently don't like to post stuff, preferring to meet up at tourneys with stuff... i'm going to see if we can sweet talk them, but is anyone going to be in London anyway in the next week or so who could maybe collect them....?

How far would an M4 nut go down a perro? Without cutting the thin end if possible
-
• #33
It goes a little too far, you have to leave the notch at the end on. an M5 or M6 work fine
-
• #34
Then I will get M5 Studding Connectors
-
• #35
Just get some M5 nuts, nyloc are always good. Get some bolts that are pretty long and some threaded rod to get the nut in the right place
-
• #36
Connector would mean I don't have to buy rod and would give better surface contact. I may take a trip to B'n'Q
-
• #37
actually it might stay straight on the way down, surface contact would be pretty similar as the pole is tapered so will mainly touch the bottom of it
-
• #38
I'm going the no rod method because it's and extra quid I could spend on twix's

I believe going from left to right it's Cheater, Half Cheater, International. The end caps are a separate item to order.

Just having a look at the 3pmh site and the prices seem a little less. €6.5 which at current rates is £5.54 each. They do free shipping world wide for orders of 20 heads or more. I'm just making my mind up on the options but we're at 10 already on the existing list and will probably want two myself making 12.
Even if we topped the list at 12 heads the shipping charge seems to be €8.90 (£7.55) if we divided that per head it's 63p postage per head so it's £6.17 each per head. It's not a massive difference but that's a box delivered to one of us rather than a box for somebody to haul back from London. Last time I ordered anything from Germany it was with me in two days.

Yeah European Cheater Mallets (as the yanks call them) have the larger cut out on the side, little lighter and some people find it easier to control the ball with them
-
• #43
Not a bad idea actually. We just go through LHBPA as it's usually just 1 or 2 we need at a time.

can get perros direct too http://perrodelmallet.wordpress.com/

If it helps, there's a good chance I'll be down in London next Saturday and could collect. Should know for sure on Tuesday pm.
-
• #46
That would be cool, even if the perros and heads are ordered direct I'd still like a couple of riks

Ahhh... took some hunting to find it on that site but it seems he now has a NEW site... http://perrodelmallet.com/
Now he's got listing for shafts, heads and complete units. From http://perrodelmallet.com/productos
We offer one of the best aluminum shafts available today, if not the most kick-ass product around!
Made to our own specifications, this 7075-t6 shaft is 1315mm long and 18mm in diameter and tapered to 10mm. Plenty long so you can make your mallet the way you want.
Raw aluminum, no frills.
**10€ + shipping. **
If what you’re looking for is a complete mallet, we have those as well, built with the outstanding 3P mallet heads. Available in 3 models: Gringo, BCN and International.
17€ + shipping.
A hand guard is also available as an extra. Not only does it helps to protect your fingers from slayers on the court but it also allows to pick up your fallen mallet off the ground more easily.
2€ + shipping.
Free shipping for bulk order. Minimum quantities vary depending on the destination. (sometimes for as low as 6 units)Contact details are listed as info@perrodelmallet.com
The shafts don't seem to be any cheaper than from the London option but 8 on the list and whatever I'm getting might get us lowish cost postage. As for ready built options it might appeal to some, for others there's something nice about rolling your own and some of us are just awkward buggers with designs on fancy angles etc.
If we've got Andy or Salman on the case for a London pickup then it's probably going to be the easiest way to go. If nothing else I think we can conclude that the London option is not taking the piss on pricing.

Yeah, they do it at cost + a small donation to the LHBPA, it's more of a way of distributing things to londoners & the rest of us than any sort of money making thing

Quick question - removing outer ring on an MTB triple, Can I just use my existing bolts or do I need to find some shorter ones for a single chainring? Having done a little testing my 32t middle seems to be the one I want to use and not the 22t inner as I'm crossing the chain way to much to get the gear I want with that.
Give it a go.
I think that as the mallet is used on both sides and both ends for ball control all around the bike at various angles it'd be weird. Maybe better for shooting if the ball is in the right place, but there's a lot more to do with the mallet to get it there that would be compromised. I didn't like the capped head I had as it put more weight on one side which put me off, meant I was spending a lot of time thinking about which way round my mallet was and not about what I was doing
