Old Polo Thread

I'm strictly a polo man - don't really get the rollers thing! Happy to help with any MHPA stuff when it comes around - rather be at the back of the peloton this time around though... ;-)

I'd rather not be a main contact for this, but more than happy to help out the MHBPA when/if it gets going.

If noone else wants to do it then I will, but I think between everyone else there are people wiht much better expericne att hsi sort of thing.

I would normally do it, but to be honest I'm just fed up of the whole mhbpa thing. Me and Ben suggested this bloody ages ago, like over 15 months ago and nothing has happened since. We came close with Neil, but not everyone was in agreement so it didn't happen.

Only a few people are vocal about it. I was excited that Woody had brought it back up again, encouraging a meeting. That was 3 weeks ago, and after I bumped this thread asking everyone to suggest some dates for the meeting only Graham has replied. Bottom line is, a lot of people just plain can't be arsed doing anything to get MHBPA up and running, so why should a dedicated few do all the work?

I can't be arsed with it now, if it gets set up then great i'm all for it. In the mean time, i'll just turn up and play. I'm staying out of all this.

A fair point, I undrstand the frustration at inaction.

I know we said we didn't wanna hold a meetign on a polo day but how but we do ahve an emergency MHBPA meeting this Sunday, at 2pm. It's light late enough these days that we can play as much polo as we want after, and Sunday is a day that almost everyone can make?

I'd like to get involved a bit, can't make sunday though, mothers day innit

Well i am up for Saturday or Sunday, whichver the most people can make. We don't need everyone to be there, just as many as we can muster?

Everyone give an opinion on the MHBPA thread please

i will happily partake in anything my schedule allows for, but as im looking to relocate within the next couple of months i've tried to stay out of decision making. i wouldn't want to get embroiled in discussions where my opinion could end up being the tipping of the scales, to then fuck off a month later.

ben: what does this sponsor need in terms of involvement from mcr polo? i have 2 months in manchester (max) and some knowledge of dealing with companies/sponsors so if i can get something started in that time, i will step up and hand over whatever is decided when that time comes.

@mark, nothing as yet they just said that they are interested in getting involved with cycling events and polo and rollers were the main things. I thought as they have a Manchester presence it would be good to mention Manchester polo...

I'm hopefully meeting them next Thursday so see what comes of it

Bringing up the fact that people had issues with one small part of this cant continually be attributed to the failing of MHBPA. Its being used as an easy excuse and i take it as a bit of a dig at myself to be honest

In June last year we came up with this list:

1. 2011 Calendar of MCR Events
   
2. New players recruitment
   
3. Winter arrangements inc. Winter Throwin League
   
4. Xmas/NY Open Tournament at Levenshulme
   
5. Fundraising/grants - how and why/merchandise - LBS and others sponsorship
   
6. Youth/schools links
   
7. Courts - where/when we play - gaining official recognition
   
8. Coaching/training
   
9. Communications - web/FB/Twitter etc.
   
10. 'Roaming Polo' - linking with other regions on a regular basis
    
    

we have done ok with new players over the last 6 months and a few people from the beginners session wanted to start playing
Getting PowerHouse and being in talks with whitworth is all good, Anything else off that list were hoping to achieve just needs to be brought up and addressed so we can all discuss it

If there are meant to be drinks on friday anyway, could we do a meeting before that?

Not a 'dig' at anyone. Don't really understand why you would think that? Loads of people weren't in agreement, not just you. And i'm not saying that this small issue is why it's been failing. I went on to say that I feel a lot of people just can't be arsed, or aren't vocal enough about it. I would consider both you and woody to be amongst the small group who ARE vocal about this. At least you imput into it.

well that's a good start, tbh i don't think i ever saw this list, i think one of the problems doing everthing on the forum is unless you regualarly check the Manchester sub forum for new threads it's very easy to have no idea something is being discussed that you need to comment on.. i know thats what i find....

anyway... guess we just need to work out what we want the MHBPA to actually be there for and then allocate some easily manageble tasks to people..

I think we need to make what we are trying to achieve really straightforward for everyone to understand and the organisation accessible, i think the concept of forming an "Association" sounds more daunting than just having a list a "to do's" and i don't think it needs to be more complex than that.....

i'm happy to chat about what we want to acheive whenever is convenient, but perhaps a sunday or saturday afternoon would be best....?
