I've just been on the Councils website to try and find out what is happening at Whitworth Park , seem the plan is to resurface the court and then redevelop it into a MUGA (multi use games area), there is no date given for these works and the funding is listed as "Capital Programme / External Funding Sources"
This info comes from the following PDF /attachments/37055
and the website is: http://www.manchester.gov.uk/info/200073/parks_and_open_spaces/1508/whitworth_park/3
We should try and cntact the Lead person for this redevelopment and make sure that the MUGA is still gonna be suitable for our use, and maybe ask about the lights as this is not mentioned.

and actually reading that PDF it suggesst that there is a bye-law that the park is closed from Dusk until-8am so possibly the lights might not be an option... worth checking...

teh "Resurfacing on the existing ball court, then redevelopment into a Multi Use Games Area" is part of their 2010 structure so hopefully its underway at the moment?
the changes and 'improvements' to the gates that get locked at 8pm is a shitter, wont stop us getting in and playing but could get us hassle from wardens
do you know who we can get in touch with to ask about the new court, Adam are you on this or do you need help?
the fact it says "Resurfacing on the existing ball court" sound promicing, hopefully they will leave the walls etc and probably just add footy goals/ basket ball nets, whitworth is long enough for us to put our own goals in front of them, i just hope they dont put those horrible red and green cages around it all

i'm not on it yet... just looked for the info, there is contacty info at the front of the PDF, the parks are based at the lakeside centre in platt fields, i might try and phone them up...
Nes did have a contact there, and also Anna is based there so perhaps they could be useful..

i just emailed them a little letter asking afew questions,

right getting well ahead of myself here.. but there is whayt looks like a polo court sized industrial unit just next to the Projekts skate park here: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=53.47335,-2.228964&num=1&t=h&sll=53.471294,-2.22505&sspn=0.006295,0.006295&ie=UTF8&ll=53.473326,-2.228897&spn=0.000506,0.001053&z=20
It's not part of the Downing St business park behind it as it doesn't feature on the map at the entrance to the busniess park, and there are no phone numbers on it, but it looks empty and about the perfect size for a court, but a bit longer
any body else who spots any building maybe add them here for when we finally work out how to get an indoor space sorted...

They dont even have a full driving liscence and there paying you to teach them, not dream about playing polo on a fancy new court.

It's beeing mentioned in the other threads but thought I would suggest it here. We need a new years meeting of MHBPA. Let's put some of the sillyness that happened behind us. After the weekend in Cambridge I think we all know what Manchester needs to be doing with itself!
. We need to talk about the possible velodrome tourney.
.Talk about Arcadia, starting or getting invovled in the movement that is trying to keep it open . . Register as a charity? maybe ask Jono about thisMeet in Whitworth as it is a bit cheaper than SB and easier to take up that whole top space?
shall we get a date sorted for this then? When's good for everyone?
each team got 1 ball, and a handfull of random badges. There was a box of badges near the tea, wish i'd grabbed a load. They went pretty fast.
