stops you from getting off the mark as quick and makes it harder to balance. especially on one of them pogo stick efforts they sell at Toys R Us. any crap bike will do though, just no suspension and a low gear.

but Yoav your telling someone who is new to it to not use the cheap bike they have to come and play on.
it is totally acceptable to use that bike especially since your just starting out, no point buying even a cheap bike for polo and discovering its not for you.

...makes it harder to balance...
Heh. I know plenty of players who are remarkably good at falling off fully rigid bikes! ;-)

when i can fit it in around work, i'd love to come down one night and see what bike polo is all about. if i got round to playing, though, i don't think i'd want to use my only 'proper' bike...is it acceptable to play on one of these kiddy bikes?
I don't know what Yoav is on about, he's only just stopped playing on a suspension bike himself! Whilst that bike isn't ideal for polo, in fact it would probably suck, it's a fine bike to come down and try polo on. You can have a look and try on everyone elkses bikes too, to see what you like

jesus christ woody, i was just tryin to help!! like you said i've just stopped playin on a suspension bike myself, so thought i had a right to comment. fair points though about playin on whatever you have at first, will keep my outlandish opinions to myself in future. -

Yoav theres nothing wrong with that bike, polo is for everyone to play and have fun regardless of whether they have a fancy bike bike or not!
everyone is welcome Andy, look forward to seeing you play soon

It's not ideal, but that's not to say someone can't play on one.
The important things (as I see it at least) are:
*At least one working brake
*Plugged handlebar ends, and no funny protrusions (e.g. stunt pegs)
*A nice low gear (or gears) as accelaration is more important than outright top speed
If and when you get more into polo then you will almost certainly find that stuff like suspension is holding you back but until then just rock up on summat that works, is safe and that you won't cry about when it gets scratched.
