  • Not sure if other folks have seen this yet but it looks like Manchester is going to continue the SkyRide theme with the Great Manchester Cycle 2012. The event is schedulded for Bank Holiday Monday 4th June. All the details are on the site:
    http://www.greatcycle.org/Default.aspx

It looks like an interesting route, including a stretch on the Mancunian Way:

There also doing 3 different rides of 1, 2 and 4 laps so the longest route is 54 miles.

My problem with this is the price. Even the basic ride of one 13 mile lap is £28!! For the 4 lap ride that grows to £38. As someone who's not working at the moment I simply can't afford to take part. Even with the early bird group discount for 10 riders it's still nearly £23 a head.

It's great that we get a large scale ride like this, I just wish it was actually accessible to the majority of cyclists.

  • any excuse to do the 13 miler fixed

  • Fuck it, I would rather be in the country side which is freer and greener and filled with less dicks on bikes :)

  • £28 buys one hell of a mid / post ride munchies sessions.

  • Spend it on beer and swear at all the rich cyclists

  • I imagine there arnt going to be many actual cyclists there, for reasons drew mentioned.

  • Spend it on beer and swear at all the rich cyclists

or an air horn for the same reason

  • Yes, nice idea but too pricey. Not encouraging of mass participation for all but those who can afford the entry fee.

Also the kit info is a bit strange, clipless pedals "vital" for a £2 per mile pootle? The original info said helmets were compulsory in the UK, thankfully now edited.

  • how would I get drunk on an air horn?

  • Huff the contents? Not exactly drunk but may work

  • air?
    I'm sure there's a reason that won't work

  • Depends on the mixture in the can.

  • See if an anthropomorphised towel can do it, you can too!

  • I'd prefer real drugs

  • Wouldn't we all.

  • yeah!

  • Tempted to do the 52 miles on my fixed..... the Dolan can stay at home methinks.

  • Bugger, just seen the 18mph min speed, might have to get a jog on

  • Get the tram?

  • Could do, might go down and do a test run and see how out of my league the ride is, probs go in for the middle one considering the min speeds

  • Spend it on beer and swear at all the rich cyclists

Spend it all on my sodding gas bill :-(

Netto sherry and abusing polo players seems to be the pinnacle of my tramp like existence nowadays.

  • good times

  • ^^ the only way is up?

    (baby)

  • defo rather ride out to the country and then spend £28 buff on beers like me and nasty did last week!
