Do it.
I can assure you riding a brakless tandem flat out is the most fun I've ever had on a bike...
I was originally intending to build it up with rear disc/trispok combo. Would look fresh. -
• #456
I'd volunteer but would have to be sure that we had enough spare parts to build it up and very strong wheels - I have a reputation of destroying them just by myself
-
• #457
it'll run r/h drive no problem so doesn't require a tandem specific chainset.
the only tandemy bit you'll need is a stoker stem, sjs has them. -

Not period correct but bet they're bombproof, and cheap.

Will chuck in the la84 and chopnflops for free if it gets salved and ridden on the aspokalypze.
-
• #460
if someone buys that, i will happily be stoker.

Nothing like having your nose in someone's crack for 50odd miles eh?

its the simple pleasures in life!

If we do buy it I should have a aerospoke to go on the front. But I'd have to be a rider
It'd also get me out of my geared weenie-ness

Team of four, £50 each
Build it from our spares and alternate riding with two other fixed bikes
Probably can't spring a hundo this week so this is my only viable option unless its still around next week

Would it be two single speed cranks and one very long chain or a double on the rear and the front crankset leading into the inner ring on the rear?
I've just been trying to work out the parts I would need and how feasible this is.
Also what are the seattube measurements?
-
• #470
all measurements in thread, st is 56ctt front and rear iirc
as for chainsets it was set up with outer ring to drive, inner ring to pilot with a double on the rear. this seems to be pretty normal for tarckdems. sheldon has great articles on tandem bodges. inner ring and the single ring on the pilots chainset need to be the same size. easily achieved with a road double on the back and singlespeed on the front.
as you'd be running outer ring to the cog ideally you'd have a slightly out of whack chainline(like a goldtec or summat, or maybe just a spacer) -

two white spoks, with double risers will make it look rad to the max

So what would the likelihood of Hed3s being strong enough for a tandem?
I've got a Hed3 that can take a screw on freewheel or cassette and another that currently has a track hub but can also take 8/9/10spd shimano if I swap hub kit around. Loads of spacers too. Eeeep!

Freewheel + brakless frame? u mad bro?
Ted shredding down Reigate on it would be something to see... -

Ted shredding down Reigate on it would be something to see...Didn't notice it is brakless! Sweeet. Well, even better. I've currently got them set up as rear fixed and front...regular spacing.
there's a difference?
