Hmmm.....offset frame mounted Alfine running to wider SS rear hub??? ;]
-
• #628
If you're going frame mounted then you could get a trike gear box hub. Then you would have a reverse gear, just for the hell of it.
-
• #629
The problem comes back to tyre clearance again then though.
I think a 83mm BB shell giving a 55mm chainline would work with 50 - 65mm rims and 3.8" tyres.
To complicate things further...I'm planning to run belt drive. :]
Now you are screwed ;)
The belt needs a very striaght
chainbeltline to work.If you can somehow space a Afline out 7.5mm to meet the 55mm chainline of a 83mm BB set-up. You're OK. I cant see that though.

7.5mm offset instead of the standard 17.5mm. Thats 10mm betterer. Plus your fork is custom. So can do what you want.

Yeah, harolds here.
More twisted bike tinkering ideas!

I think spacing the alfine out is tough because of the cable carrier.

Believe it or not. Things are afoot on the furry bike front.
The crankset on the long bike has been replaced, and I have some more bits for it.
Picked up headset, seat post clamp, and stem for the fat bike. Just need brakes and seat post.
The front triangle of the fat frame will be started tomorrow. I'm 99.9% comfortable with my numbers here. The rear triangles numbers are a lot more sketchy.

Can't really ask for more than that. If anything, I would imagine that this frame is a reasonably low cost part of your superfatbikebuild. If it all went wrong, then you'd have some solid numbers to build a superfatbike Mk II in a few years.

The frame will fit me well. It should handle as I designed it too (slightly slack up front to work with med/short stem. Lowish BB, with snow clearance from the 165mm cranks)
I'm just nervous the fork crown or tyres will not have enough clearance. The moonlander is complex for a reason.

I'm sure it'll be fine. There are military aircraft that have involved less planning in their design than your fatbike.
*& have been built more quickly ;-)

Hopefully this bike won't freefall 10,000ft when it fails though.

^ No, but Smallfurry's mental health might!

Failiure isnt dangerous. If it fails, one of three things will happen.
The bike wont turn left because the fork clashes.
The rear wheel wont go around.
The cranks wont go around. If it works, Then I'll have amble opertunities to do myself in, riding down steep, snow covered trails, tring to work out where the frozen mountian streams cross the trial. All in perpertual night of course.
Currently looking into frame bags. So I can carry emergency clothing.
Norway is a postcard pretty place to cycle in the summer. But its in the winter that it gets really special IMHO.

Had you considered moving to Guildford?

Everytime I do any grocery shopping.
Everytime I go for a drink.
Everytime I spend half an hour dressing the kids just for an hour in the garden.
Everytime I have to drive 9 hours to play our local rugby rivals.
Everytime I have to spend 45 mins shovelling snow at 6am......Not specifically Guilford admittedly.

Mounted my cut-H bars to my stem. Notice how the sweep in combination with the 90mm stem gives an effective reach of around 60mm. Perfect for the slackish 70deg head tube....
....If the central section clears the top of my Lefty.

Wrapped my bars. The frames rear end isnt even weilded yet. But I figured I had to do something.
Fizik gel + microtex tape. Nice

Will you be walking around the house holding onto them all the time?
Or at least till Mrs Furry takes them away from you ;-)
-
• #645
Ha!
I had to fit them to my Lefty. To check the strut cleared the bar.
Then chucked the front wheel on to confirm alignment.........Then wheeled the front end around my workroom making dramtic turns.
no brum noises though........honest.

It's previously been pointed out to me when walking through the wood's that I go over obstacles whilst holding on to imaginary handlebars :-s
Doesn't everybody?

You do realised you're going to need to get the frame decals in anodised blue ti.

I have a matching Fizik Gobi saddle in that metallic blue, and silver ;)

Triton are working on my rear end now (oh-er-misses). My original chainstay length wont work with the BFLs. There simply isnt room for the chainring. My feck up of stating the chainline as 62mm, on one of my mails, instead of 66mm did'nt help. Still its massively reassuring to see Triton checking every detail.

Maybe having some offset front and rear is my only option. :]
