12.5mph is reasonable for the distance, factoring in unexpected and planned stops.
-
• #78
Well, let's see how we get on. Best to pace ourselves.

Who's going to do it fixed? Also, can someone provide some details on the Norwich 100?? Ta

12.5mph seemed rather low, I thought a decent average would be 15mph?
As per my comment Ed 12.5 mph is accommodating for stopping time too, the 12.5 mph is the whole day average. Rolling average would be more like 16mph.

Ah thanks for that ;)
I don't own a geared bike but the Norwich 100 looks like good practice...

I did it fixed last time I entered. It's certainly possible, just can be a pain if there's a headwind on the coast. Mate of mine did it on a BMX once, but he had to bail at the ~70 miles mark.

I'll be doing it this year I think, looks like a laugh. No way I'll be racing that though.

I'll do it fixed. Did the DD at 140 miles on it, would do it again.

The Norwich 100 or the double century?
-
• #87
Riding fixed.

Aiming for 15mph is a reasonable approach I think, sooner we get there is better. That way it doesn't matter if we are a little slower.

Might be interested in this, but sorta need a planned route? London to Norwich and back?

Does anyone have a fancy Garmin 800 that we can upload a route to, so we don't have to faff with maps?

garmins are the devils work... -

In theory we can average 12.5mph for 16 hours and get to Norwich for 9pm - time enough for some fish & chips, a pint and the 10pm back to London. In theory.
Back to london? Fuck that.... stay in norwich!

I will be staying in Norwich, at the GF's flat, coming back a couple of days later...

Recce the route and write a route sheet. Much better than maps and a lot more fun than a Garmin.

Norwich 100 is fine on fixed just don't underestimate the coast road, it resembles actual hills. However, I will be geared for both that and this.
