  • Mmm - I think 6.26 was without stops! I did 6.20 without stops, 6.55 with stops (and as officially texted to me). As some others said above - got hit by the cramps, had to stop and stretch about 8 times after and including Kingston. Hot, hot, hot....

  • Hey Smudgley - we had a chat after the impromptu pub water stop. I ended up having more cramp and called it a day at the 120km mark then soft pedaled another 25 km back to High Wycombe.

All in great day - not sure how I could have drunk more but probably just need more miles in the legs!

Steves - I'm pretty sure I bumped into you and had a chat about your XACD frame - have been reading your post on it and may be firing you a couple of questions in the future on the topic...

Well done for finishing both of you.

  • yodasm9...thought I spotted you heading the other way a bit after we chatted...hope you got back ok. Drop me a line anytime about the frame....as i said, i'm looking at a Ti tandem next!!

  • oh, and congrats on the BAFTAs TTM!

    Thanks Steve.

Times are up and I got...

    ...DNF!

    Luckily I had my Garmin.

  • Yeh, my 6.25 didn't include stops. I thought I'd only stopped for around 15 mins, but my total time (per the text I got today) was 6.55, so obviously I dawdled longer than I thought! So the same as you mroli.

TTM - congrats on the BAFTAs - Pretty awesome end to the day!

Forgot to mention one of my highlights of the ride - the two kids with water pistols shooting everyone part way up one of the climbs after the last feed stop. Cooled me off for about 20 seconds, but better than nowt.

  • Great Day and a really great course!
Made it around the 120km route in good spirts, fairly savage going up whiteleaf just come down it again.

Was a little upset by only a single feedstation on such a blistering hot day and never met such a grumpy set of volunteers inspecting for official riders - I was lucky to get water out of them!

  • Hey Yoda - i though i saw you going the wrong way at one point, i think as i was heading into watlington. Shame you had doen the worst of it. Thought about bailing a few times but with no gps i would only end up getting more lost.

Managed to catch a mate who went off in one of the earlier groups as i was going towards turville. descent from watlington to turville was a real boneshaker and by that point sitting was hard work. but was enough chatter to keep me going towards the end and we split off going up the climb from wycombe. Thankfully another water stop at the top of the hill (the grumpy marshals) and the water pistols a bit further on really helped cool me down for a bit.

Just disappointed i had to bail going up whiteleaf this year, cramp everywhere but glad i finished

Really missed not having my Garmin to show distance and help me measure my effort so had my stop watch going and would check every hour how far i had gone. Not ideal but managed it for a bit though by the end was a bit muddled and was struggling with the maths.

Seemed to be a lot more cars on the road this year as well especially up bison hill where not only did i have to contend with the climb i was worried about losing momentum and having to walk.
