FFS. I'm fed up of idiots having to blame someone.

""His family basically wants justice for him"
So, his family want him fined for speeding and causing damage to property even though he's dead? How very strange.
-
• #954
They don't put cones out
^ from the families attorney. Laughable. She got her face on the telly though which may be her motivation.

It's a real tragedy the guy died, but I wonder if he would have supported this lawsuit.

Obviously no one ever reads the terms and conditions when they sign up for stuff, but Strava's contain this...
YOU EXPRESSLY AGREE THAT YOUR ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES, WHICH GENERATE THE CONTENT YOU POST OR SEEK TO POST ON THE SITE (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CYCLING) CARRY CERTAIN INHERENT AND SIGNIFICANT RISKS OF PROPERTY DAMAGE, BODILY INJURY OR DEATH AND THAT YOU VOLUNTARILY ASSUME ALL KNOWN AND UNKNOWN RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH THESE ACTIVITIES EVEN IF CAUSED IN WHOLE OR PART BY THE ACTION, INACTION OR NEGLIGENCE OF STRAVA OR BY THE ACTION, INACTION OR NEGLIGENCE OF OTHERS.

Should be part of the LFGSS T&Cs...
-
• #958
the logic just annoys me though. "He died whilst using strava" "he killed a ped whilst recording a time on strava" So strava is to blame, not the individual who is in control of their own actions...
-
• #959
Hmm, they've updated their T&Cs to include this:
You agree to indemnify and hold Strava and its subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, agents, representatives, employees, partners and licensors harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of Content you submit, post, transmit or otherwise seek to make available through the Site, your use of the Site, your athletic activities which generate the Content you post or seek to post on the Site (including, but not limited to, athletic activities in connection with any contests, races, group rides, or other events which Strava sponsors, organizes, participates in, or whose Site is used in connection with), your connection to the Site, your violation of the Terms, or your violation of any rights of another person or entity.

Someone I follow on Strava posts their commutes as two-way trips, which reduces the clutter and feels much neater. Is there an easy way to do this that doesn't involve stitching the files together manually?
-
• #961
Press Start/Stop, and don't reset until you're home.
-
• #962
Had a 19mph commute last night scuppered by a weak GPS signal. Two 4 mile sections with no data, straight lined on the Strava map.
52 minutes moving time from bike rack to door though, boo ya.

I use a Garmin Edge 200, but I suppose that would work just fine on the iPhone. Maybe I'll just use my iPhone instead, but then my Garmin's sitting there all redundant.
First world problems.

I was referring to a Garmin.
Press the top-right button when you get to work, and again when you leave for home, or just turn the power off/on (top left). Job done.
-
• #965
I didn't know you could do that, thanks.

Got an email last night telling me I'd lost a KOM I didn't even know I had, the fairly insignificant Lady Margaret Road Sprint. I'm certain it never showed up in the list on my profile.
No idea why Strava seems to think it's completely flat, it's not. bikehike.co.uk reckons it climbs about 13m in 410m, ~3% gradient.
-
• #967
I was thinking about the emails they send when KOM is lost, and whether that is a factor in this court case in the US.
If Strava send an email telling you that you lost a segment, they are in effect inciting you to try and regain that segment. If it happens that the KOM record is over the speed limit, they are effectively inciting you to break the limit.
-
• #968
^^ I think if the first person to ride the segment has a gps error then it seems to keep that version.
eg. I don't think tourmalet hits 196%!

That's just daft. Surely it wouldn't be that difficult to calculate the average (mean/median/whatever) from all the uploads. Should end up pretty accurate with enough data.

That worked a treat, thanks. That's cut the amount of nonsense commuting rides in my feed by 50%.
-
• #971
It's been shit this week, flatlining most of my rides. This must be bacuase I am now so fast the satellites can't track me.
-
• #972
I'm wondering if that Lady Margaret Rd Sprint segment was only created last night, by the fella that did 20mph up it, and Strava sent me an email because I had been the quickest up there even though it wasn't previously a segment.
If I kill myself trying to get it back, will someone please sue them on my behalf. Thanks.

They can look up elevations for segments/rides for you, but they seem to hide the option to request if your device is a garmin/has a barometer. Obviously in that example it hasn't been done.

Just installed Strava and posted a log of my commute. Oh dear. I was beginning to find my commutes nice and relaxing, which plainly isn't going to be the case any more with 4 segments en route.

How far off KOM are you on each?
Wahay, here come the lawsuits; cyclist died chasing a KOM on a descent.
Fantastic interpretation by the family + lawyers that Strava organises online bike races :/
