  • Are you able to make a route on google maps, bit confused!? Be really convenient for morning hill laps!

Don't know how to do that. Here it is in Bikely: [ame]http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/crystal-palace-double-hill-rep[/ame

    [/ame]

But I don't know how to create routes that double-back on themselves, so it's the route above, then in reverse, ad infinitum.

  • Awesome thats perfect thanks. Will give it a look.

  • It gets a bit hypnotic. Would be really nice to have somewhere where you can ride uphill for a couple of thousand metres rather than having to bodge together some bullshit on roads chock full of WVM...

What, somewhere like Surrey or Kent?

To be fair that does take a while to get to so if you are pushed for time then keep doing what you're doing

I don't know where to go and haven't the time at the moment. Once this silly challenge is out of the way I can go back to cycling for fun.... ;)

  • Also, I'm pretty sure there aren't any 2,000m climbs in Kent.

  • Ben Nevis is only 1,344m, so you may be right.

    Fact attack.

  • Although of course there is the scenic and challenging col de Sevenoaks, height unknown.

  • It gets a bit hypnotic.

Went out this morning to do this, saves time going into surry. You're right about hypnotic! But otherwise pretty nice hills.

Check out Salters Hill, runs up the side of West Norwood Park, reckon it's around 15% up.

Apologies for taking the KOM. It's all in the decent/a bit inaccurate.

  • I did this route this morning, except only once as I suddenly remembered I had a meeting and had to head to work. When I checked strava it appears I am actually getting slower on hills :(

Might have a look at Salters Hill tomorrow as a special Friday treat to myself.

  • Sparky... don't forget about the hills around Bath. Very steep stuff so relatively easy to get the metres in.

  • Skinny, you weren't the guy in black going twice as fast as me, were you? All these hills are taking their toll on me, felt a bit sluggish this morning. Still: 49pc...

Miro_o, I'll try Bath, but we're only arriving at midday and need to check into the hotel and go to some museum - the whole reason for the stop-off is that the other half wants to go there. So once all that's done I'll hopefully be able to negotiate a few hours on the bike. But how much more will Rapha Rising be asking of me then? No idea.

  • Also, weird experience on way home: silver BMW revs up behind me, beeps horn, overtakes and swerves towards curb. Man in passenger seat, smoking a fag, leans out of window: "Are you talking shit, bruv?". Then asks me to pull over.

I'm pretty good at picking up on little signs like this, so I'm thinking maybe he wants to punch or kick me, so I say no and cycle off as fast as I can.

Where was this? Dulwich. Bloody Dulwich, most middle-class place in London.

  • Steep isn't better when you're dealing with these climbing challenges. I found the long gradual (~8% gradient) climbs were best. The really steep ones take more out of you and don't tend to cover as many vertical meters, which makes them a huge pain for hill reps.

  • Yeah it was me in black on the trek.

You're right about not so good for the challenges bmxed, but they're fun just for fun.

    Sandwiched between Peckham and Brixton...

  • Skinny, you're fast.

    London, you're pissing me off.

  • I'm just skinny.

I had a taxi drive into the back of me when a light went green yesterday. Slowly too, blatantly on purpose. So you're not alone.

Strange: sounds like this car is doing the middle-class rounds. I had a very similar encounter (silver BMW, etc...) in Richmond Park, where the passenger shouted something at me - I didn't catch what, but seemed to be along the lines: "your bag's open". Then same to next cyclist up the road - who actually stopped to check, the gullible fool. (I probably would have too if I had heard what he said.)

  • Two black guys, mid 20s?

  • FFS - why are people still making new segments on Brixton Hill.

  • Oh, I'm peeved!

Only just getting to grips with Strava, there is a segment near me and it shows me as 2nd on my activity, but 9th on the bloody leaderboard....grrrrrrr!

And I know ive only missed the KOM by 1 second..........I'll get that tomorrow ;o)

I meant relatively easy to fit into a busy day, rather than easy to ride. BMXed makes a good point about picking your battles hills.

Try living in Norfolk and attempting this challenge no chance.
