No, the T-in-a-circle-that-you-can't-type guy. Forget his real name...

I had a burls, or rather my GF did, but it cracked at the weld as so many ti frames do. Obviously this doesn't go for all burls (and applies to other companies too) but I think the preparation and care taken in welding titanium frames is so crucial to the strength and longevity of them and any builder who does not build the frames themselves cannot have as much control over those factors as those that do. So, if you can afford it, go for frames built 'in house' by the seller, rather than built by a 3rd party.

Has anyone here had a Firefly? Interested to know how they stack up versus a Moots or Seven.
-
• #930
So who are the main 'in-house' builders?
-
• #931
As far as I'm aware all the Americans build their own... Moots, Lynskey, Indy Fab etc... over here - Enigma build bespoke and their top end frames in house but buy in all their off the peg frames from factories in China, Taiwan etc (made to their geo/spec)... Don't know about Burls...

A good friend does. What are your questions? The frame is finished fantastically, according to him rides wonderfully and really is something to behold. The waiting list however is over a year long, unless you pay them $500 for a 'rush build' which still means you've a six month wait. Seven/Moots however turn stuff around in 6-8 weeks IIRC.
All expensive though. Especially post Brexit.

Afore mentioned friends firefly:
I can attest to the apparent quality of its finish

I'd get one if I had the budget and didn't mind the wait, have a look at their flickr, they do amazing work

I saw a Moots the other day in the flesh. Also amazing. Don't really think you can go wrong with any of them. Would buy a Kent Eriksen out of everyone though.

Firefly supposedly start at $10k for a basic full build...wish I had the cash

Geekhouse have started doing Ti and it looks pretty amazing:

Not true - frameset is $4.2k - pretty much ballpark with Moots, Seven etc. Offer full builds from $5.7k. Still expensive mind.

I love the paint job on that frame, and I love Geekhouse, but I would choose someone more experienced in ti welding for a ti frame. Stinner also do ti, but I would rule them out for same reasons.

$3,400.00 for a Kent Eriksen. If you didn't know, he was the founder of Moots. Consistently win NAHBS awards. Welds are out of this world.
-
• #944
Yeah - Eriksen is obviosuly an amazing builder. That quoted price is ex fork, but still a bit cheaper than some others.

Triton builds their own in a factory which used to fabricate missile-sized titanium tubes for missiles. In fact, Triton's capacity was reduced recently when the Russian govt asked for one of their sheds back, presumably to increase production of missile-sized titanium tubes.
Much beard, very Russian:

Looking at prices - exchange rates are much more favourable for Russia-made frames than for US-made frames. The US frames are shockingly expensive right now. Yay Brexit.
