Some lovely bikes here love the idea of ti and a bike that really lasts. Am very close to parting with my hard earned cash for a van nic mistral. Any other options in the sub 1500 bracket I should be looking at? Mostly going to be used for sportives and odd bit of touring.
I've got a 2011 Mistral. Love that shit. Really nice ride.

Why Mistral if you want to do some touring?
Have a look at the yukon instead.

Yeah I considered both chinook and yukon, well Yukon only briefly, my ideas of touring again are more aspirational now with two kids. I really like the chinook but it is a fair bit extra and not sure what more you actually get? A slightly stiffer frame?

I thought the same - mainly use my yukon for club and commuting, but when I want to tour or hell even stick guards on during the winter I can.

Have you looked at this one?
http://www.spacycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m1b0s21p2573Its an Audax frame so should be a happy medium between racebike, and tourer theoretically.
With 2 kids it can be nice to have a bike you can ride in the rain. I find the perfect cycling weather turns to rain. The second my kids are asleep, and the Mrs releases me from fatherly duties. So the mudguard clearance could be nice. Plus you can add a rack if you do find the time for some light touring.
Not to say the minstral isnt bloody nice though. Plus you can buy clip on mudguards, a massive saddle bag, and a big barbag etc. So while its not as flexible a frame as the Audax. you've hardly burnt any bridges. Depends on your priorities.

If you buy the whole package that's a good deal.
I was torn between the spa and a VN. Went for the VN in the end as fat birds isn't that far away from me so I could go have a look before I purchased one.

Infact just ordered some T spacers after yo reminded me. They have 1.5, and 3mm sizes, and I may need to do some ultra fine tuning of my Lefty set-u.

Just ordered 4 specific sizes, in hard to find sizes at that. Still cheaper than a Hope Tech 4 pack.
