  • Have you tried running your frame Geo through Bikeinsights to see if you can get an off the shelf, or 2nd hand frame, that would match your requirements ? Example I was using ...

  • Didn't know whether to post this in this thread or the Orient Express one but does anyone have experience of procuring a frame from Waltly?

    @PhilDAS does

  • I've got a Sabbath Ti tourer (I'm sure it's posted somewhere upthread) which I don't ride nearly as much as my other bikes - and I'm realising it's because it's got canti brakes and they're a real pain to maintain, don't have great stopping power etc (compared to my disc mtb for instance).

Sooo I'm starting to look into getting a disc brake mount added

Surely mini Vs are worth a shot before getting drastic?

  • Yes! I had a frame made by them. As the reviews say, be extremely specific about absolutely everything you can think of.
I gave all lengths and angles, the amount of seat tube I wanted extended above the top tube, the location and type of every boss and hole, and the tube diameters for every tube.
I specified super specifically that I wanted oval tapered chain stays as they default to skinny round ones which functionally are fine but I hated the look. They tried to persuade me out of it but I stuck to my guns.
Also tell them standards like which headset and BB you want to use, what size rotor, what size chainring, crank length, tyre clearance etc
I think in the end it came to around 1k shipped to my door but I avoided import duties. Had it 2 years now and it's sweet. Went for brushed finish as it's easy to touch up by hand but blasted looks good too if you want that moots look

  • That's really helpful, thanks

  • There's plenty of gravel bikes out there that could meet many of my needs but have much more relaxed geometries.

I'm looking for something that can be CX raced with relatively racy geometry but still has big tyre clearance. The Crux ticks these boxes but I'd like the additional mounts for more versatility if required.

CX bikes are a dying breed nowadays hence me looking at something custom made.

  • Is that an ergon seatpost? Thoughts on it?

  • Funnily enough I have one on the gravel bike. It's great and good at cutting out road/gravel buzz although isn't much help for anything more rowdy such as tree roots.

That and a Redshift stem have both been great additions for comfort on the gravel bike without adding a huge amount of weight or complexity.

You can feel it bob a bit when putting in an effort like a sprint but TBH the Redshift stem is much worse for that than the seatpost.

  • As above, takes the buzz otherwise feels just like any other post. Can't feel the movement at all

  • Anyone #onhere have good or bad experience of Gloria titanium frames? Interested in the All Road.

I assume they are having the frames batch built by one of the bigger factories out east. Based on a fairly recent direct quote I had from one such factory, the pricing is pretty sharp, especially if a potential warranty issue can be dealt with here rather than incurring more international shipping.

  • Had a look at them myself recently. Looks like a Waltly frame with added customer service but at least they don't then take the mickey with the pricing unlike some people with open mould carbon frames.

Looks like they're pretty local to London, could be worth popping over to see them in person.

  • Thanks. I may just try and do that.

The quote i had was from Waltly actually. So am surprised not to see a bigger difference, though i am factoring in import duties. Was there a reason you didn't go for a gloria?

  • I'm still pondering about the new frame but I think I'd rather go straight to Waltly to have more customisation, for example the geometries of the Gloria bikes wasn't quite what I was looking for.

  • With Waltly, I started out putting a spec together purely out of interest to see what I could come up with but rapidly got to the point where I would have had no idea until the finished product arrived of the impact of or differences between some of the options (things like tube profiles, shapes, diameters etc.) - how have people worked through the process with confidence about what they'll end up with?

  • I've got a Waltly frame (60,000km on it) and my Wife has a Titan. I specc'd the geometry, BB, cabling, headtube, brakes etc but let them do the tubing. They make 1000s of frames so figured they'd know what diameters to go with. Can't fault either frame.

  • Field cycles have just posted some interesting stuff. Carbon lugs and titanium tubes.

  • Want to sell it?

  • Not right now thanks - but if I do I'll give you first refusal.

  • Pretty nice Singular Ti frameset for the taller folk out there

  • Nice one, good luck modding it if you go that route

  • Thats very handsome looking

  • Just don't use it to dive down to see the Titanic 👀

  • Gloria who were mentioned upthread have a pretty good value titanium travel bike: https://road.cc/content/feature/all-world-titanium-travel-bike-you-can-take-anywhere-310809

  • thinking of selling my Moots PSYCHLO X RSL either frame/forks or possibly full bike.

53cm, Sram Etap, CK wheels/headset are the main bits. Love the bike but limited to 35mm rear tyre size and I have Singular Kite Ti with better clearances.

Anyone interested or can help with a value. I bought it used from Gamma cycles up in Edinburgh

  • Very tempted to get one and spec it in roadie guise to be winter bike replacement and travel bike too - they look very nice!
