• They're lovely...

  • 2001 carrera adone - titanium with carbon rear and fork. Owned for about two years - rebuilt last year with all new group wheels - everything. Contacted carrera last week to ask if I could buy a larger one I was told they had hanging on their factory wall - they told me they didnt have anymore. Lies.

    cool story - really

  • Just got this ready to ride for the weekend -

Been waiting to build it for a year.
Pimp stuff - 2003 Bomber forks, could do with a service. CK headset. DMR Revolver rear hub. WI freewheel, not actually that noisy with this frame, Trickstuff Exzentriker eccentric BB. Using an ITM Millennium stem as that's all I have atm. Still need to get a rear disc brake to match the front but at least it's rideable.

  • lovin that litespeed, daym she's pretty

  • Beautiful.

  • don't like the frame at all ... don't know why

  • The chainstays look huge

  • don't like the frame at all ... don't know why

    I don't like Bugatti's...

  • Another happy Van Nicholas owner:
Van Nicholas Euros road bike
Built up with Campag Centaur. The aesthete in me is dying to swap the black VN stem and seatpost for silver Thomson ones, but it's a bit of a spendy job at the moment...

  • needs van nicholas 15mm setoff post and silver thomson stem

  • Note to self: preview before trying anything clever.

    VN pic attached...

  • Love my Van Nicholas, cycling up to the coast tomorrow will be sure to take a couple of pictures.

I also need a shorter stem too, got a nice black FSA one at the moment (with the carbon cap) and would like something similar again.

  • One of my friend works in a uni shop:

    26" muni

    36" geared road unicycle

  • I should get pics of my new VN replacement frame they just sent. I stripped most of the decals from the old one, just leaving the ones on the downtube and chainstay, but the new design is pretty cool imo and I'm probably going to leave it. Looks pretty industrial/military inspired.

  • Is it the new frame with the slanting drop outs? I've got them on my yukon (2012 version) means I can run geared of fixed, really is the perfect frame!

  • Ti road bike:

Matching 29er to follow soon :)

Like that lots, although it's crying out for a silver stem ;)

    Are those early-90s Time pedals?

  • ^^^Regular vertical dropouts. As far as I can tell, the only change between the 2010 and 2012 frame are the stickers.

I will be removing some of them mind...they're a bit cheesy. They've got that "nothing rides, looks or lasts like Ti" guff on the frame. It's subtle, but nonetheless better off without.

  • Nope I've got the 2012 Yukon and it doesn't have vertical drop outs. They are sliding (like the old roadbikes) so you can easily run fixed or geared. They've done away with the fixed/non fixed versions of the yukon now and are selling one.

Is there an easy way of removing the stickers? Nail polish remover didn't work, so I tried scraping some off with the back of a knife, but they were pretty firmly attached.

  • I assumed the semi-horizontal dropouts on the touring frames would be for hub gears. Edit: It's a Mistral that I have.

Get shot of the stickers with Nitromors. Works perfectly and leaves the Ti untouched. The new stickers are regular stick-on type too, so if you don't like it or change your mind, you can order a new set from VN. The previous ones were applied using some super magic machine (according to the e-mail I got from someone at VN) so if you removed them, you had to live with it. That's assuming you're talking about a VN.

It might get a Ti stem at some point to match the Ti seatpost. The pedals are Time RXS Racer, picked mainly for the colour although the use the same cleats as the Time Impacts on my other road bike which is handy.

  • Ah ok that's where we go it different! It's the audax frame I've got not the full on touring machine.

Adding a Ti stem really took me by surprise. I had a Thomson X2 on my Merlin, which was/is a fine stem, but a recent upgrade to the Moots had me converted. It really seems like a sound investment (albeit a 2nd hand one) and an instant improvement to the quality of the ride.

In addition to the stem, the Merlin also has the Moots Cinch seatpost, re-built DA hubs onto the Open Pro CD rims and added a DA cassette and chain. Its still very much in Roadie mode, but a nice cx wheelset will be on the cards as/when funds allow. Also, I added some Lizard Skin Tape which despite looking a bit gimpish, is damn nice tape, dare i say better than the fizik i had on before!

While the Ti thread is up, i recently made the Burls more road/distance suitable.
