  • Bundy's fuckin rubbish, but nice with bundy ginger beer.

has a bottle of Pyrat XO recently, absolutely delicious. for 35 quid a bottle it should be though. Then my girlfriend mixed it with coke. :(

  • I have bought a bottle of this - Diplomatico Reserva - Venezualen barrell proof.

My normal rum is a Havana 7.

Homemade spiced rum is always made from Appletons.

    Its all about sipping rums.

  • Boltran,Flor de Cana, Zacapo, Barcelo, Cacique, Pampero, Brugal, Varadero, Legendario, Santiago are all personally recommended.

  • I tend to just drink my rum with Ginger, so i'd be keen to hear of other mixers???

  • Clearly depends what you were brought up with.

the australians i was with referred to the stuff as queensland diesel. apparently its an acquired taste down under as well

  • It's very much like Vegemite. You either love it or you hate it.
Most people seem to have one bad night on it young and swear off it for life.
    Others.. are like me.

Had some Havanna Club at the pub quiz tonight. It was ok.

  • would i be a complete philistine by mentioning sailor jerry. (before they changed the recipe)

  • Been drinking this lately, Matusalem 23

  • Good ad campaign as well, never seen them before http://www.notcot.com/archives/2008/02/matusalem-rum.php

  • This thread is making me salivate.

I'm going to spam this thread a bit, but in a nice way (I hope you find).

Clarke's Court Pure White Rum 69% alc (my personal favourite)
    Clarke's Court #37 43% alc
Clarke's Court Old Grog 40% alc
Clarke's Court Special Dark Rum 40%
Clarke's Court Spicy Rum 69% alc
Clarke's Court Superior Light Rum 40% alc
Clarke's Court White Ball 75% alc

I think a few of you might know that I hail from Grenada, where these rums also originate. I have always drank the Pure White Rum straight, and rarely with a chaser, or coke, or anything. Its strong, so definitely a sipping rum. It managed to put me off Wray & Nephew and Appleton for life, as they taste very chemicaly in comparison to these rums.

Some Caribbean rums are available here in the UK: http://www.caribbeanspirit.co.uk/subcategory.aspx?catid=11

Don't say I'm not good to you. Oh, if you wish to try Clarke's Court Pure White Rum, I suggest that you eat a good meal a few hours before. It is really, really, really strong (for the uninitiated).

  • Bought this for someone the other night. They liked it. Was the 'darkest rum in the pub' according to the barman. I like the label

Pretty much all rum on general sale in the UK is from the Caribbean isn't it?

  • Gonna get in a couple of bottles of this next pay day.

  • I'm after a pub/bar with a decent rum selection in London - date friendly. Anyone?

  • Not proper rum, but I could swig this stuff all day long.

    Floridita?

  • would i be a complete philistine by mentioning sailor jerry. (before they changed the recipe)

why the FUCK did they do that?

  • These are my current favourites, Ron caney anejo and Santiago de Cuba.
Both are excellent on their own but the Santiago will blow you away mixed with ginger beer.

  • I recently tried the Chairmans reserve St Lucian rum... very good indeed
The spiced version was a little too sweet for me

    1919 was very nice

I also tried some Clements XO and 1976 rum both were great but rather spendy.

Anyone else tried any of those ^ and if so got any recommendations?

  • Appleton Reserve is delish

    Appleton's is pure mustard!

  • Any recommends for a cheap, decent gold rum?
Going to have a go at making my own spiced rum for a Mulled party I'm going to in a couple of weeks.

  • Opted for Cockspur.
Decided against mulling, just added vanilla to see what its like.

The rum was OK, I prefer Captain Morgan's if I'm being honest.

  • Drank a bottle of Boltran Solera over the weekend with my old man, lovely, smooth finish, not harsh on the throat at all. Went well with ginger beer, ginger ale or coke, really nice on it's own as well.

  • Got a buddy of mine a bottle of this for his birthday a few weeks back.
    It's actually pretty damn good!
