As it happens I have a spare pair of rims shortly. Vuelta Airline 1, 36h 559 x 21 in gold. I paid £19, however I changed my mind and got different ones, seller convieniently only saw my message to cancel after posting, so for sale at £15. Ill be building my polo wheels up as soon as the bits arrive, hopefully by mid next week. I have no pro skillz or tools and can't teach but you're welcome to check it out.

Cheers dude, I shan't have any funds until payday now but sounds good. Pardon my ignorance but is 559 a 29"/700cc? I need 26" rims primarily but I should check my roadie as tht may also need a new pair in the near future...

622 is 700c

are you wanting to reuse hubs and spokes? you'll need same / very close effective rim diameter (ERD) rims to what you have at the moment. if you arn't it can be cheaper to buy already built.
Hubs from £20 a pair, spokes from £15 for 72, decent rims are usually £20+ each and you'd need to build them aswell. -

Tallsam - ta, I'd forgotten the mighty wisdom of Mr Sheldon, may he Ride In Peace.
Rincwind - that's made me sad, but not as sad as if I'd spent a heap of money and cocked around only to fail, so thanks.
Time to mortgage the house we don't own...

if you do pick up some similar ERD rims I'll build them up for you cheap with your old hubs/spokes

How's about you show me how but I still pay you?
I've Mavic XC717s on at the mo - do you know if these will be compatible? I'm not sure how much life there is left in them tbh - Gisburn is to blame for most of the wear - a whole set of blocks front and rear in one bloody day. Clearly I just need to man up and stop slowing down for berms and techy descents.

looks like the ERD is 538mm on those, so if you buy some rims with that ERD they'll be fine, do some googling. As for teaching you, I've not done loads but it ain't too hard, could do it I guess, come round mine, I'll do the rear and show you how to do the front, assuming you already know how to make tea though, as you will be doing that without a demonstration.

Lockring for the bb was siezed and I didn't have a vice or long enough pole to move it
The fellow questioned my ability to know how bottom brackets/spindle length works. The proceeded to talk to the other guy about how it could catch the chain stays he didn't even look at the frame.

afraid I've only got a 17t
Hey Rob,
My MTB rims are startin to wear a bit thin :( How much money/beer is required for you to train me up on building a new pair? Are you Oh Faye with models, et al? I'm not fussed about weight (the extra work will only partially mitigate how little I ride the damn thing) but I value strength (for daft off-road shit sans-suss) and durable braking (me, a trailer and a bike-seat sure do wear 'em out quick).
